  • Our fifth-grade English/Language Arts
    program offers many opportunities for students to
    improve and practice their reading and writing
    skills in a creative, cooperative environment. We
    will compose in our journals daily to enhance
    grammar, composition, vocabulary, and
    comprehension skills. Our curriculum is
    integrated with science, math, and social studies
    concepts to the maximum extent possible through
    weekly interdepartmental planning sessions.
    Within our reading program, we utilize running
    reading records, trade books, and novels along
    with the reading textbook and Accelerated Reading
    program.

Behavior Expectations
  • Children who do not make good choices in class
    will be asked to redirect their behavior.
  • Children who do not redirect their behavior,
    after being asked once, will sit out for a
    portion of their recess.
  • Children who consistently lose recess during a
    two-week period will attend a parent-teacher
    conference to develop a behavior plan.
