  • Darius Decree 625-28

5
Daniel 61-9 The Plot Against Daniel
  • Darius, the Persian ruler, moves to decentralize
    the government structure of Babylon.
  • Daniels only corruption was his faith!
  • The administrators and satraps went as a group
    to the king.
  • God for a month!

6
Daniel 610-18 The Trap and Reluctant Punishment
  • Upon hearing the newsDaniel prays as always!
    Cf. 1 Kings 835-36 Psalm 5517.
  • Daniel was asking God for help.
  • The accusation Danielpays no attention to
    the king.
  • Darius reaction is the exact opposite of that of
    Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2.
  • The den is sealed with the kings seal.

7
Daniel 619-24 Daniels Rescue and the
Accusers Demise
  • The Lions Den was more of a trial by ordeal than
    an execution.
  • Daniel is innocent before Godand the king! (v.
    22)
  • Angel fourth man in chapter 3.
  • The accusers and their families are fed to the
    lions instead.

8
Daniel 625-28 Darius Decree
  • Darius proclaims the God of Daniel to be the
living God i.e., active and sovereign in the
    affairs of the world.
  • Daniel has climbed from captive prisoner, to
initiate, to sage, to chief sage, to
administrator over the province of Babylon, to
the kings personal adviser, to third ruler in
the kingdom, to the prime minister over the whole
kingdom, under only the king himself.

9
Applications
  • Despite any and all appearances, God is indeed in
    control.
  • The powerful political forces that move against
us are often relatively small Daniels problems
were not with the Babylonians or Persians, but
    with specific groups among them.
  • Daniels praying was not prompted by crisis it
    was a regular lifestyle.

10
Applications
  • Gods people react to circumstances, but they do
not overreact. Cf. 214 wisdom and tact
  • It is possible to prosper as the people of God
    even during adverse circumstances.
  • The basic issue for Daniel is the conflict
between the law of God and the law of the
    Medes and Persians.
  • Unlike Daniel 3, Daniel was not punished for not
worshiping a false god he was punished for
    worshiping the true God.

11
Applications
  • Daniel does not grandstand for his faith
instead, he quietly goes about living out his
    faith.
  • Ultimately, and ironically, the powerful king
Darius was powerless to save Daniel from the
    lions.
