were all on a spiritual search, but there are
obstacles along the way A thief is only there to
steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can
have real and eternal life, more and better life
than they ever dreamed of. John 1010
3
most of us are unaware of how thoroughly Satan
has deceived us 8 Watch out for people who try
to dazzle you with big words and intellectual
double-talk. They want to drag you off into
endless arguments that never amount to anything.
They spread their ideas through the empty
traditions of human beings and the empty
superstitions of spirit beings.
4
most of us are unaware of how thoroughly Satan
has deceived us But that's not the way of
Christ. 9 Everything of God gets expressed in
him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You
don't need a telescope, a microscope, or a
horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and
the emptiness of the universe without him.
Colossians 28-9
5
weve reached a mark of maturity when we
begin testing the deceitful thoughts of our
mind against the Word of God
6
2 Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture
that you fit into it without even thinking.
Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be
changed from the inside out. Readily recognize
what he wants from you, and quickly respond to
it. Unlike the culture around you, always
dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God
brings the best out of you, develops well-formed
maturity in you. Romans 122

difference in a perfectionist VS a seeker of
excellence
perfectionists - set impossible goals - value
is based on accomplishments - easily discouraged
by failure, and quit since perfection
is impossible - see failure as the ultimate
evil and let it devastate them
seekers of excellence - set high goals
within reach - value is based on who they are -
discouraged by failure, but dont give up -
learn from failure
19
difference in a perfectionist VS a seeker of
excellence
perfectionists - remember mistakes and lash out
at others - only happy if theyre 1 - fear and
hate criticism avoid it or ignore it - have to
win or self-esteem plunges
seekers of excellence - correct mistakes
and move on - happy if theyve done their
best - see criticism as a means to improve -
self-esteem is independent of success/failure
20
key difference is the connection
between self-esteem and success we often
spiritualize perfectionism God wants me to
be efficient and accomplish goals for
His glory
21
the truth God wants me to be His child and
stay intimately connected to Him Jesus said, 4
Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in
you. In the same way that a branch cant bear
grapes by itself but only by being joined to the
vine, you cant bear fruit unless you are joined
with me. . . . 9 Ive loved you the way my Father
has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my
love. John 154, 9
22
If we cannot tolerate failure, how
many opportunities do we let pass us by? How
much different would your life be if it were
not for the fear of failure?
23
Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically
on their environment and especially on their
children than the unlived life of the parent.
Carl Jung Many of life's failures are people who
did not realize how close they were to success
when they gave up. Thomas Edison
24
I do the very best I know how the very best I
can and I mean to keep doing so. Abraham Lincoln
25
14-15 God's Spirit beckons. There are things to
do and places to go! This resurrection life you
received from God is not a timid, grave-tending
life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God
with a childlike "What's next, Papa?" 16 God's
Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we
really are. We know who he is, and we know who we
are Father and children. Romans 813-16 do you
know who you are?
26
Gods answer Justification Justification means
that God not only has forgiven me of my
sins but also has granted me the righteousness
of Christ. Because of justification, I
bear Christs righteousness, and I am therefore
fully pleasing to the Father.
27
Gods answer Justification How? you say. In
Christ. God put on him the wrong who never did
anything wrong, so we could be put right with
God. 2 Corinthians 521 (Message) 21 God made him
who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him
we might become the righteousness of God.2
Corinthians 521 (NIV)
28
1 By entering through faith into what God has
always wanted to do for us set us right with
him, make us fit for him we have it all together
with God because of our Master Jesus. 2 And
that's not all We throw open our doors to God
and discover at the same moment that he has
already thrown open his door to us. We find
ourselves standing where we always hoped we might
stand out in the wide open spaces of God's grace
and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise.
Romans 51-2
29
new belief I am completely forgiven by and
fully pleasing to God. I no longer have to fear
failure. 17 Gods Spirit concludes, I'll
forever wipe the slate clean of their sins. 18
Once sins are taken care of for good, there's no
longer any need to offer sacrifices for them.
Hebrews 1017-18
30
I now live a life of following and obedience
not as a performance to avoid failure, but
because I am in a relationship with
God, because I love Him, and because He loves
me.
31
8 But God put his love on the line for us by
offering his Son in sacrificial death while we
were of no use whatever to him. 9 Now that we are
set right with God by means of this sacrificial
death, the consummate blood sacrifice, there is
no longer a question of being at odds with God in
any way. 10 If, when we were at our worst, we
were put on friendly terms with God by the
sacrificial death of his Son, now that we're at
our best, just think of how our lives will expand
and deepen by means of his resurrection life!
32
11 Now that we have actually received this
amazing friendship with God, we are no longer
content to simply say it in plodding prose. We
sing and shout our praises to God through Jesus,
the Messiah! Romans 58-11
