College Terms De-Mystified
  • Semester- each semester runs for approximately 15
weeks there are 2 semesters in an academic year
  • Registration- when you sign up for classes

  • Credit hour- equals the hours you are in the
    classroom per week

383.5239 for assistance in selecting a major if
    youre undecided
  • Transferring to a four-year school- we can assist
you in selecting appropriate courses for transfer
  • What is a prerequisite versus a co-requisite-
prerequisite is the course(s) you must take
before a specific course, and co-requisite is the
course(s) you take at the same time as a specific
    course
  • What is full-time versus part time course-load-
full time is 4 classes (at least 12 credits),
part time is 1-3 classes (11 credits, or less)

11
What are General Education requirements?
  • Each student must complete 1/3 of his or her
    studies in General Education classes
  • General Education classes cover a broad range of
topics to provide every student with a
    well-rounded education
  • All four (4) year institutions also require
General Education courses, so students are able
to work toward their bachelors degree at the

    Degree requirements.
