Results of Performance Objectives 2001-2002
  • 1 85 of 11th grade students will achieve
    mastery on a Criterion Referenced Test (CRT) in
    Language Arts Literacy.
  • Result 87 achieved mastery.
  • 2 75 of 11th grade students will achieve
    mastery on a CRT in Mathematics.
  • Result 76 achieved mastery.

    number of students exceeding the school cluster
    mean score of 3.7 on the Speculative Picture
    Writing section of the High School Proficiency

Results of Performance Objectives
Objective 1 - By June 2002, there will be a 5
increase in the level of students who are
considered advanced proficient in the Language
Arts Literacy section of the Grade Eight
Proficiency Assessment.
Objective 2 - By June 2003, there will be an 85
success rate of students who are Proficient or
Advanced Proficient in the Mathematics section of
the Grade Eight Proficiency Assessment.
Outcome - Our school had a level of 5.1 of our
students who were considered advanced proficient.
The percentage of students declined 3.6 and our
objective was not met. As a result, we will
continue to monitor the level of improvement of
advanced proficiency in Language Arts for the
2002 - 2003 school year.
Outcome - Our school achieved a total of 64.9 in
the level of students who are Proficient/Advanced
Proficient. As a result, we will continue to
monitor the progress of cluster means proficiency
and overall GEPA results for 2002 - 2003.

  • By June 2003, 15 of our fourth grade students
    will score in the Advanced Proficient range,
    and/or 75 of our third grade students will score
    in the Proficient and/or Advanced Proficient
    range in the Language Arts component of the third
    and/or fourth grade state assessment.

Action Plan Provide staff development focusing
on Language Arts enrichment strategies. Refine
the format and scoring of the fall/winter
PESPA. Monitor classroom performances for
congruency among grade level and the states
cumulative progress indicators.

  • By June 2003, 50 of our fourth grade students
    will score in the Advanced Proficient range,
    and/or 75 of our third grade students will score
    Proficient and/or Advanced Proficient range
    in the Mathematics component of the third and/or
    fourth grade state assessment.

Action Plan Provide staff development
opportunities in developing problem solving/
higher order thinking skills. Introduce the
Problem of the Day format and scoring rubric to
the third grade. Refine the format and scoring
of the fall/winter PESPA.

  • Objective 1 By June 2003, there will be a 5

  • Outcome The Language Arts scores surpassed the
    states just proficient mean in each cluster. A
    2.5 increase in the number of students scoring
    at the Advanced Proficient level in Language Arts
    Literacy was not achieved.

    increase in students scoring at the Advanced
    Proficient level and/or Proficient level on the
    Mathematics component of the ESPA.
  • Outcome This objective was achieved in one year
    as opposed to the two-year expectation. There
    was a 12 reduction in students scoring at the
    Partially Proficient level on the Mathematics
    component of the ESPA. There was a 16.1
    increase in students scoring at the Advanced
    Proficient level. All scores surpassed the just
    proficient means in each cluster.

BUILDING RENOVATIONS
1998 Bond Proceeds 16,836 was paid on existing
contract balances for the additions to Ocean Road
and Nellie F. Bennett Elementary Schools. As of
June 30, 2002, 49,188 remains and will be used
to payoff open contract balances. OTHER MAJOR

Comprehensive Maintenance Plan
  • The 2001-2003 Comprehensive Maintenance Plan was
    administered by Sodexho Marriott for the 2001-02
    school year. The plan was approved by the Board
    of Education on October 15, 2001.
  • The plan addresses corrective and preventative
    maintenance for the interior and exterior of each
    school building and grounds. The plan includes
    the major systems of heating/ventilation/air
    conditioning, mechanical, plumbing, electrical,
    structural and grounds.
  • The district spent 893,458 on maintaining and
    improving buildings and equipment. This amount
    includes the portion of the contract with Sodexho
    Marriott attributable to maintenance related
    activities.

  • Status-Long Range Facilities Plan The current 5
    year Long Range Facilities Plan which covers the
    period of July 2000 through June 2005 was
    approved by the Board of Education on December
    11, 2000. The plan received State approval on
    January 14, 2002.
  • Health and Safety Reviews Each building
    principal, along with the facilities director,
    conducted the annual review of their school
    building using the Checklist for Evaluation of
    School Buildings. All deficiencies were
    corrected by our maintenance and custodial staff.
    All required Health and Safety certificates have
    been obtained.
  • Monitoring The district was notified on May 28,
    1999 by the Commissioner of Education certifying
    the district through June 1, 2006.
  • Substandard approvals The district had no
    substandard approvals for the 2001-02 school
    year. The district has had to apply for
    substandard approvals for the 2002-03 school year
    for three classroom trailers.
