• Highly efficient sensor to detect sound waves
• The machined cochlea could one day substitute for
  the microphone and much of the electronics in
  cochlear implants at a much lower cost.
• A tapered SiN membrane is used to detect acoustic
  signals. Transducers on the membrane detect the
  mechanical deflection of the membrane and produce
  an electrical signal
