Hydrogen
Hydrogen A Family Itself
  • A Family by Itself

2
Hindenberg
  • highly flammable diatomic gas (H2). With an
atomic mass of 1.0094 g/mol, hydrogen is the
    lightest element.
  • Hydrogen is the most abundant of the chemical
elements, constituting roughly 75 of the
    universe's elemental mass.
  • Stars in the sky are mainly composed of hydrogen
    in its plasma state.

3
  • Elemental hydrogen is relatively rare on Earth,
and is industrially produced from hydrocarbons
such as methane, after which most elemental
hydrogen is used "captively" (meaning locally at
the production site), with the largest markets
about equally divided between fossil fuel
upgrading and in ammonia production (mostly for
the fertilizer market). Hydrogen may be produced
from water using the process of electrolysis, but
this process is presently significantly more
    expensive commercially than hydrogen production
    from natural gas.

4
Alkali Metals
  • The alkali metals are a series of elements
comprising Group 1 of the periodic table lithium
(Li), sodium (Na), potassium (K), rubidium
(Rb),cesium(Cs), and francium (Fr). (Note that
hydrogen, although nominally also a member of
Group 1, very rarely exhibits behavior comparable
    to the alkali metals)

5
Alkali metals
  • The alkali metals are silver-colored (caesium has
a golden tinge), soft, low-density metals, which
react readily with halogens to form ionic salts,
and with water to form strongly alkaline (basic)
    hydroxides
  • alkali metals
