Small PV Interconnection Approval Process Is Very
Simple
  • Application information can be taken over the
    phone
  • Name and address
  • Inverter manufacturer, model number, rating
  • Confirm UL1741 listing
  • On site inspection after installation takes
    less than 15 minutes

  • Diesel or natural gas engine
  • Synchronous generator
  • Primarily for emergency or back-up power
  • Paralleling Switchgear to avoid interruption when
    returning load to utility, but includes
    continuous parallel capability for future
    peak-shave option
  • No intention to export power

  • Most projects do not start with an application
    containing a completed interconnection design
  • Most projects do start well before application
    with phone call seeking information about
    technical requirements

  • CGE uses IEEE 1547 as the core of its
    interconnection technical requirements for any DR
    lt 10MW
  • To complete a design that is compliant with IEEE
    1547, some exchange of information with the
    utility is necessary
  • Relative size of DR to utility load
  • Transformer winding connections
  • Utility reclosing

  • Most of the interconnection issues are worked out
    in an informal process with the Customers
    engineering firm before an application is made
  • In most cases so far, no CGE system changes have
    been required to accommodate the DR

Impact of IEEE 1547
  • Provides a nationally recognized standard that
    supports CGE requirements
  • In CGEs experience, most pre-IEEE 1547
    interconnection designs were generally consistent
    with IEEE 1547 therefore, no significant
    changes have occurred
