Background

• Born in London on December 9 in 1608.
• John Milton Sr. was a wealthy man.
• His father had became wealthy as a law writer.
• His father also composed music.
• His mother Sarah Jeffrey was the daughter of a
  merchant sailor.

• His first education was at the St. Paul's School.
• Milton was determined to be a priest at first.
• He then gave up this idea and spent six years at
  his fathers home.

• John had written poems on his free time but never
  looked at it as a career.
• 1637 to 1639 he traveled in Europe.
• During this time his eyesight began to fail.
• In 1651 he was completely blind.

• Penseroso was written in 1632.
• Comus was written in 1634.
• Lycidas was written in 1637.
• In 1666 in London, Milton published Poem in the
  English Tongue. This poem is considered the most
  criticized poem ever.

• Paradise Lost is believed to be written in London
  in 1667.
• Paradise regained was written in 1671

• John Milton died in 1674
• He was buried next to his father in St. Giles
  Church in London.
