What is sexual harassment?
  • Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual
    advances, requests for sexual favors, and other
    physical, verbal, or non-verbal conduct of a
    sexual nature made
  • -by a member of the school staff toward a
    student or
  • -by one student toward another student

Physical sexual harassment can be a situation
where a person is
  • Grabbing or touching someone inappropriately
  • Tearing or pulling at someones clothing (e.g.
    pantsing)
  • Purposely bumping or rubbing against a person
  • Kissing or holding someone against his/her will
  • Impeding someones movement or preventing someone
    from moving freely

Verbal Sexual Harassment
  • Inappropriate comments about body parts
  • Sexual suggestions or threats
  • Spreading sexual rumors or stories about someone
  • Sexual jokes
  • Using sexual orientations as an insult

Non-Verbal Sexual Harassment
  • Staring or pointing at someones body parts
  • Making obscene gestures
  • Displaying obscene sexual material or placing it
    in someones locker or on someones computer /
    cell phone

How do I know if my behavior is unwelcome?
  • Are my words/actions disrespectful to the other
    person?
  • Would I say this if my mom, dad or teacher were
    present?
  • Have I been told my actions are inappropriate?

What can I do if I am sexually harassed at school?
  • Tell the person to stop. Be clear. Tell the
    person you do not like their words or actions.
  • Tell your teacher, a counselor, or the principal
  • Talk it over with your parents

Preventing Sexual Harassment
  • Expect equality and respect
  • Treat everyone with common courtesy and respect
  • Think about how the other person may feel
  • If you are told to stop, STOP!
