What is poetry?
  • Creative writing characterized by formal patterns
    of verse, thought, and emotion, lines and
    stanzas, rhythm and rhyme.

Types of Poetry
Youre a poet and didnt know it
  • Unit test on poetry November 31, 2005

What's that you say?
  • There is no November 31?! How do you know?
  • 30 days has September, April, June and November
  • 31 has all the rest
  • Except February which has 28, except in a leap

Check it out
  • You just used poetry. See, poetry is used
    everyday. Did you know the music you listen to is
    a form of poetry?
  • Bet you thought poetry was boring..

Elements of poetry
  • Theme Main idea
  • Purpose Choose audience, think about purpose,
    and support theme with description

  • Form Choose poetic form

Put your heart into it
  • When you are writing poetry, remember to write
    with your heart. Take whatever you are feeling
    inside and write it down.

Free Verse
  • Poem free of the requirements of regular length,
    meter or rhyme.

  • To see Jim Madison sworn in.

  • 5 lined poem with one couplet and one triplet
  • Meant to be funny
  • A flea and a fly in a flue
  • Were caught, so what could they do?
  • Said the fly, Let us flee.
  • Let us fly, said the flea.
  • So they flew through a flaw in the flue.

    the theme.
