1.0 mill Renewal Fire Protection and Operations
Levy
  • It is the recommendation of the fire department
for the administration to renew the millage for
the fire protection levy in November of 2009. The
committee has reviewed the levy information that
will end in 2009. A complete fleet replacement
schedule has been updated for the committee. The
citizens have had the comfort knowing that they
have a aerial ladder truck to respond to their
homes or apartments in the event of a fire.
Commercial owners also, have had the comfort
knowing that in the event of fire they would have
the best equipped fire department to respond to
their calls for service. The citizens of Rossford
purchased the citys first aerial ladder truck in
1978, thats 32 years of service from one fire
unit. However the truck is on borrowed time. In
today's standards the aerial ladder no longer
meets safety standards, replacement parts are no
longer available by the manufacturer, and
breakdowns become more costly with the unit
staying out of service longer to wait for
    replacement parts.
  • The 1.0 levy that is due to expire in 2009, has
enabled the fire department to replace old out
dated fire fighting hose, appliances, turnout
    gear, defibrillators, tornado sirens, EMS
transport units, and a rescue-fire engine that
will replace three units that dated to the
    1970s.
  • Replacement of the 1977 aerial ladder truck, the
Rossford Fire Department fleet will be updated,
and set for the next few decades . All equipment
    will meet current safety standards.
