Internet A New Forum for Proclaiming the Gospel
  • Pope John Paul II, on his message for 36th World
Communications Day, exclaimed that the Internet
is a new forum for proclaiming the Gospel of
    Jesus Christ.
  • In n the words of the Second Vatican Council,
the media is a marvelous technical invention
that already do much to meet human needs and may
    yet do even more.
  • Cyberspace is an amazing medium for communicating
    information.

3
  • The great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ is
that we should take the Gospel to the end of the
    earth through various Evangelistic activities.
The Internet has proved to be one of he most
efficient and reliable means of communicating
globally with little or no restrictions, which
    Christians cannot ignore.
  • Like any other means of communication, Christians
need to take advantage of the numerous
    opportunities provided by the media.
  • In this case, the Internet for evangelism, is a
    dynamic and effective ministry.

4
  • The Internet is one of the most key tools that
God has given us in the Church today. What better
way to engage today's culture with Christs
    message than through the Internet?
  • It is a fact that internet access means millions
of people across the world can read, see and hear
the Good News of Christ in new and exciting ways.
  • The Internet offers the Church an amazing and
rapidly expanding opportunity to share the Good
News of the Gospel in a world that thirst for the
    truth.

5
A Third World Country perspective on the Internet
  • Speaking from a developing nation, it is most
likely that the majority of third world countries
do not have an easy access to the internet.
  • For example Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama,
Ecuador, Peru, etc are equipped with internet
however, a vast number of people do not have
    access to internet.

6
Why?
  • Maybe because they do not own a personal
    computer.
  • The internet is too costly to afford it.
  • Some people are not computer literate and may not
even know how to operate the internet.
  • Or maybe they do not have an easy access to
internet, since most of them live in the rural
    areas.
  • There are several other reasons to why the
internet may not be readily available to third
    world countries.

7
  • Regardless of the many difficulties a third world
country may face to access the internet, this
    medium of communication is worthwhile.
  • People have spiritual questions. Theyre not all
walking into churches and asking their pastors
    for the answers.
  • Research shows that an increasing number of
people are seeking their answers on the internet
    day after day.
  • The key is for the Body of Christ to meet these
    people right where they are.
  • The lost and hurting type a specific question
into an internet search and we must be there with
    a relevant answer.

8
But how can a third world country benefit from
this dynamic ministry?
  • I think that most third world countries do have
internet access. I have been to Mexico,
Guatemala, El Salvador and just to name a few,
and I noticed that internet is easily accessible.
  • However, I believe that the internet should be
equally made accessible to all areas of the
    country.
  • For example
  • - Governments provide or establish computer
training centers, acquire computers for the
effective use of communication and promote the
    usefulness of internet.
  • - As well, reduce the high cost of internet fee,
so that all may be able to afford it.

9
  • With this in mind, many people will definitely
    have access to the internet.
  • Therefore, if people have access to internet, it
will absolutely be easier for them to hear, see
and know the Good News of the Gospel.
  • As a result, many will come to know the truth,
Jesus Christ. Many will open their hearts to the
Gospel and receive Christ in their life.
  • And so, all shall come to know and love the Lord,
Our God, through the spreading of the Gospel by
    way of cyberspace evangelization.

10
  • I believe that the internet is one of the most
powerful evangelistic tools and will impact the
world for Jesus Christ in this generation.
  • As I look around cyberspace I see how web logs
and high quality web-pages are creating community
and influencing young and old alike.
  • I think we as the Church need to be far more
proactive in using these channels of
communication, a dynamic and effective way to
spread the Good News of the Gospel.
  • Now that the internet is such a powerful means of
communication it is vital that Christians use it
to communicate the Good News of Jesus Christ.
