Real-time AWIPS at CIMSS

• Objective In order to collaborate most
  effectively with the National Weather Service
  (NWS) in the provision and training of new
  satellite products, especially including the GOES
  Sounder, it is highly advantageous to be able to
  work in the NWS Advanced Weather Interactive
  Processing System (AWIPS) environment with
  real-time capabilities. The goal is the
  establishment and support of such an AWIPS
  workstation at CIMSS.
• Accomplishments
• Initial real-time data are being ingested into
  and displayed on the AWIPS workstation at CIMSS,
  including satellite, radar, and numerical model
  grids, as of late spring 2005. The data are
  acquired from the NOAAPORT Digital Video
  Broadcast (DVB) signal received at SSEC.
