Why do we need affordable housing?
  • Cost of housing outpacing income for many of
    Citys residents (esp. seniors) workforce
  • Required by State, Region, City
  • City Resolutions (2004-37, 2004-158)
  • City CLUP (Housing Element)
  • State Statutes (Ch. 163(6)(f))
  • SFRPC
  • State sanctions for non-compliance on future CLUP
    amendments, future state funding/grants,
    (historic, transportation), etc.

  • Affordable Housing Study identified the following
    goals

Citys 10-year GOAL (it is not a commitment)

  • City staff working to draft regulations that
    address the needs identified in the Study.
  • Considering 3 Strategies

What really works? Whats the most immediate,
efficient effective option?
Partner w/ Miami-Dade County for administration
management, and allocation of program(s)
Recommend all 3 strategies

  • Staff seeks City Commission adoption of
    Resolution that supports recommended strategies
    in order to
  • Satisfy state, regional, and local goals and
    requirements
  • Preclude findings of non-compliance w/ reference
    to CLUP
  • Preclude potential of other state sanctions,
    including withholding of grants/funding for
    Citys various programs (historic,
    transportation, etc.)
