DVA Definition

• Domestic Violence and Abuse is the misuse of
  power and the exercise of control by one person
  over another within the context of any close
  relationship, past and present.
• Such abuse may manifest itself in a variety of
  ways including physical violence, emotional or
  psychological abuse, sexual violence and abuse,
  financial control and abuse and the imposition of
  social isolation or movement deprivation.

DVA Devon statistics

• 2007-8 8,925 incidents reported
• 2,500 victims approx
• 1,200 very high risk victims
• 80 Female victims to 20 Male
• 48 children involved
• 240 children and young people and 100 adults in
  refuge

• 2000 supported by 3 Womens Aid services
• 60m annual cost to mainstream services
• 22 of violent crime is dva
• Elder abuse 11 of police incidents
• BME very low estimate under 1
• 50 child protection registrations have dva
