Topics Covered Needs Assessment
  • Topics under technology needs assessment and
    technology transfer implementation included
  • technology needs assessment methods and resources
  • country experiences with needs assessment and
    technology transfer implementation

6
Key Outcomes
  • Participants gained much better understanding of
global and regional clearinghouses, networks, and
tools and shared country approaches and needs
  • Primary recommendation is to improve capabilities
and support to national and local institutions
  • Recommend focused effort to enhance regional
networks and capacity to implement selected
technologies/services of common interest in Asia
  • Rural electrification networks (additional
comments to be provided by Mr. Dadich)
  • ESCO and performance contracting networks

7
Key Outcomes
  • Recommended more focus on off-line technical
expert support to achieve balance of web-sites
with direct interaction with experts and
    intermediaries
  • Should give more attention to adaptation
    technologies
  • Promote more South-South networking
  • Increase effort to provide technical assistance
in securing financing, especially for smaller
    projects with high transaction costs
  • Possible role for GEF

8
Key Outcomes
  • Business and financing sector participation is
    critical
  • Provide improved tools for marketing technologies
    through existing networks
  • Give more effort to informing users of
    availability of key analytical tools
  • Increase effort to conducting needs assessments
    and implementing technology transfer programs
rather than further work on methods
  • Develop approaches to match country needs and
    opportunities with businesses and donors

9
Lessons Learned
  • Important to focus on a few specific topics of
common interest to participants to be able to
provide concrete training and define next steps
  • Climate Technology Information is too broad and
not a of interest to businesses and non-climate
    officials
  • Need to expand participation from existing
networks in the region and from businesses and
    financiers
  • Maintain time and flexibility for in-depth group
    discussion and sharing of approaches
  • These lessons are being incorporated in plans for
    the African Regional Workshop
