COOPERATION
Special attention will be paid to ensuring there
is effective coordination between the thematic
areas and to priority scientific areas which cut
across themes, such as forestry research,
cultural heritage, marine sciences and
technologies.
4
COOPERATION - Health
  • Ethical, legal and socio-economic issues will
be taken into account within each of the
    following activities.

5
COOPERATION Food, Agriculture, Fisheries, and
Biotechnology
  • Objective
  • Building a European knowledge-based bio-economy
by bringing together science, industry and other
stakeholders, to exploit new and emerging
    research opportunities that address social,
    environmental and economic challenges.
  • (plus specific issues under Activities)

6
COOPERATION - ICT
  • Objective
  • Improving the competitiveness of European
industry and enabling Europe to master and shape
future developments in ICT so that the demands of
its society and economy are met. ICT is at the
very core of the knowledge-based society.
activities will also help reduce the digital
    divide and social exclusion.
  • Rationale
  • ICT research activities will also draw on a
broader range of scientific and technological
    disciplines including psychology, pedagogy,
cognitive and social sciences and the humanities.

7
COOPERATION Nano-sciences, Nano-technologies
  • Activities will also investigate the impact of
nano-technology on society and the relevance of
nano-science and technology for the solution of
    societal problems.

8
COOPERATION -Energy
  • Activities
  • Development of tools, methods and models to
    assess the
  • main economic and social issues related to energy
  • technologies and to provide quantifiable targets
    and
  • scenarios for medium- and long-term horizons
    (including providing scientific support for
    policy development).

9
COOPERATION - Environment
  • Activities must consider the socio-economic
    aspects of policies and technological
developments, whenever relevant to the topic.

10
COOPERATION - Transport
  • Rationale
  • As well as the strong industry relevance of the
themes and activities , the needs of policy
makers will be addressed in an integrated way
    covering economic, social and environmental
    aspects of transport policy.

11
COOPERATION - Security
  • Activities
  • Security and society mission orientated
research which will focus on socio-economic
    analyses, scenario building and activities
related to cultural, social, political and
    economic dimensions of security, communication
with society, the role of human values and policy
    making, psychology social environment of
    terrorism, citizens' perception of security,
ethics, protection of privacy, societal foresight
and systemic risk analysis. Research will also
    address technologies that better safeguard
privacy and liberties, and will address
vulnerabilities and new threats, as well as the
management and impact assessment of possible
    consequences.

12
COOPERATION
  • More detailed information in Specific Programme
Cooperation and in Work Programmes of each
    thematic area

13
IDEAS
  • Objective
  • This programme will enhance the dynamism,
creativity and excellence of European research at
the frontier of knowledge. This will be done by
    supporting "investigator-driven" research
projects carried out across all fields
  • Activities
  • This action will respond to the most promising
and productive areas of research and the best
    opportunities for scientific and technological
    progress, within and across disciplines,
including engineering and social sciences and the
    humanities.

14
PEOPLE
  • a set of "Marie Curie" actions.
  • Fellowships for researchers at all stages of
    their careers.

15
CAPACITIES Research infrastructures
  • Integration activities projects, including
    transnational access
  • bottom-up approach
  • targeted approach
  • New Infrastructures
  • - ESFRI Roadmap, including 6 projects in SSH

16
CAPACITIES Science in Society
CAPACITIES Research policies
CAPACITIES Activities of international
cooperation

JOINT RESEARCH CENTRE
  • Activities
  • Prosperity in a knowledge-intensive society.
  • To carry out and develop advanced econometric
modelling and analysis techniques in the context
of policy definition and monitoring , for
example in the follow-up to the Lisbon Strategy,
the Internal Market and Community research and
  • education policies.
  • Freedom, security and justice
  • To develop activities contributing to the
establishment of the area of freedom, security
and justice, especially in areas related to
protection against terrorism, organised crime and
fraud, border security and prevention of major
risks, in cooperation with relevant bodies.

Other possibilities
  • NCPs future plan
  • Collection and documentation of research topics
included in work programmes of other themes that
are interesting for SSH researchers. These
documents will be made publicly available on a
website to be of use for all SSH NCPs as well as
researchers in order to help them to think
    wider
