Whats It All About?
  • Children in Need is an annual charity appeal
organized by the BBC. Each year since 1979, the
BBC has set aside one evening of programming on
its flagship television channel, BBC One, to show
events aimed at raising money for charities
working with children in the UK.

Areas Children In Need Covers
  • Children In need covers many different areas of
    child neglect. They are
  • Substance Abuse
  • Child Prostitution
  • Bullying
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Illness HIV/AIDS
  • Homelessness
  • Disability
  • Self Harm
  • Every single penny that you donate finds its way
to a charity or project that works to improve the
lives of children and young people throughout the
    UK.

Where your Donation Goes!
  • 85 could pay for one 'household starter pack'
for a homeless 16-year-old attempting to escape
    life on the streets
  • 75 could pay for a specialist hospice nurse to
look after children with cancer for a day
  • 17 could pay for one therapy session for a
    sexually-abused child or teenager
  • 15 could pay for one counselling session for a
child affected by violence at home
  • 5 could pay for a Christmas present for a child
    from a homeless family
  • 4.99 could pay for a set of toy cars for a group
of children infected by HIV or AIDS
  • A number of the organisations to whom we give
money aim to change the direction of young
peoples lives in noticeable, long-lasting, and
    practical ways.
  • Even the smallest donation is vital
  • 260 could pay for one course teaching
'independence skills' to children with severe
    physical disabilities
  • 250 could pay for two underprivileged children
to attend a holiday club while their mother
receives treatment for a life-threatening medical
    condition

Who It Helps?
  • Your donation helps thousands of children at
different ages and different stages of their
    lives.
  • Steven, aged 14, was sexually abused from the age
of 4 by his grandmothers boyfriend, he also has
    Cerebral Palsy.
  • About six months ago Steven started seeing a
counsellor from MOSAC. The local Cerebral Palsy
provided a talking computer, which Steven uses
    to communicate.
  • Within the last six months Steven has now been
able to communicate with his counsellor, and has
to begun to open up and express his thoughts and
    feelings.
  • Without the funding from Children In Need, Steven
wouldnt have been able to have a counsellor and
be able to talk about what happened to him and
    what he experienced.
  • Stevens counsellor said Before he had this
facility, Steven was lonely and isolated and
couldnt talk about the sexual abuse he
experienced. Now theres such a big difference in
him hes a much happier and outgoing boy.

Maria, aged 15 "My father has been addicted to
drugs and alcohol my whole life. Whenever I was
with him he was always under the influence of
something. I worried all the time and I also felt
angry, guilty and resentful about all the stuff I
had to deal with. So I started hurting myself,
which I guess was my way of expressing these
emotions. "My dad started going to ARC three
years ago for help with his addictions, and I
started going too. I now go there about two to
five times a week. ARC has helped me to turn my
life around. It helped me to look at myself, my
life and my attitude and see that I was normal,
it was just my circumstances that weren't. "I'm
now a really positive person and ARC has put
together a special programme for me, to help me
always maintain this frame of mind." This is just
two of the children that children in need have
helped with the money raised each year.
