    in Schools (HB58 Approved March 7, 2006)

  • I understand you want to protect us and I also
    understand you want us to pay attention, but it
    really isn't going to work. As far as protecting
    us we go straight home and do it anyway and yes a
    lot of us are clueless about giving out
    information but we go out and do it anyway, why?
    Because we're kids, we're disobedient, and that's
    just how we learn even though listening would
    probably be easier in the first place.

    used wisely.

    appropriate.
  • How to maximize the Internets potential while
    protecting themselves from potential abuse.

  • Internet messages and the people who send them
    are not always what or who they seem.
  • How to avoid dangerous situations and get adult
    help.
  • Which online activities are safe and legal.
    (i.e. file sharing)

  • Classroom Internet use can be exciting,
    rewarding, and challenging.
  • Students Internet use should be tailored to
    their ages.
  • Students need to hear rules often.
  • Monitoring is crucial.

  • Student technological interactions in the virtual
    world can be negative and spill over into the
    real world.
  • Exchanging information with others is a great way
    to use the Internet but also possesses inherent
    dangers.

  • The division must have clear and effective
    policies and procedures in place to protect
    students and help prevent system misuse.
  • Although a schools legal responsibility does not
    extend to home Internet use, school leaders can
    help prevent tragic situations by ensuring
    parents and students are well informed.

  • Think before they click
  • With whom are they chatting or e-mailing?
  • What are they saying and how are they saying it?
  • Will the person on the other end know they are
    joking?
  • Walk away from the computer and Take 5 before
    responding to something that upsets them online.
