Project Description
A smart card is a plastic card about the size of
a credit card, with an embedded microchip that
can be loaded with data, used mainly in the high
security market.
Smart cards are being deployed in most sectors of
the public and private marketplaces, having both
single-function and multi-function applications.
These cover a wide range of applications
including wireless communications, banking and
payment, pay TV, tracking and information
technology among many more.
The aim of this project is to focus on the these
applications along with the operation and
security issues regarding these cards

Progress. . .
  • Found lot of papers, articles, reviews and
    information on the overview of smart cards,
    applications, smart card readers and security,
    through the internet.
  • Went through the book smart card 2000 the
    future of IC cards, which gives a broader image
    on the applications regarding smart cards.
  • Found a website on how to make a Dumb Mouse
    smart card reader.

Problems Encountered
  • The kit required to build the Card Reader needs
    to be shipped from Holland.
  • Tools required to put the kit together not very
    easy to obtain.
  • Subject matter is too vast.
