Title: APAN HEP Workshop Introduction

1
APAN HEP WorkshopIntroduction
  • Tuesday 21 January, 2003
  • APAN Fukuoka Conference
  • Yukio.Karita_at_KEK.jp

2
Remote participants
  • Participating in this workshop through VRVS are
    as follows
  • Harvey Newman from Caltech
  • 22002400 at California
  • Olivier H. Martin from CERN
  • 700900 at Geneva
  • Who else?
  • Many thanks for joining us at these inconvenient
    hours.

3
Objective of this Workshop
  • To appeal the rapidly increasing importance of
the high broadband / high quality network for
Asian physicists to participate in HEP
    experiments
  • To show our wishes for collaborating with APAN to
    get it
  • Some background
  • ACFA (Asian Committee for Future Accelerators)
became an affiliate member of APAN
  • ACFA network has been an approved project in
    APAN since 2000

Agenda
  • 1500(10m)  Introduction
    Yukio Karita from KEK, Japan
  • 1510(25m)  Networks needed for HEP and activity
    in ICFA-SCIC                          Harvey
    Newman from Caltech, USA (VRVS)
  • 1535(15m)  Networks for participating in HEP
    experiments from Korea
    Dongshul Son from CHEP, Korea
  • 1550(15m)  Networks for participating in HEP
    experiments from Taiwan
Wenshui Chen from Academia Sinica, Taiwan
  • 1605(15m)  Networks for participating in HEP
    experiments from Pakistan
      M.H. Zaidi from NUST, Pakistan
  • 1620(15m)  Networks between CERN and
    Asia                          Olivier H. Martin
    from CERN, Switzerland (VRVS)
  • 1635(25m)  Discussion

5
Rough idea of the agenda
  • General requirements for participating in HEP
experiments are presented by Harvey Newman, the
ICFA-SCIC chair.  It might be an ideal
environment for each Asian country to set as a
target or a dream. The current status and the
future plan in USA/Europe will be presented too
which might be a model for Asia to follow.
  • Then, the current status and the future plan to
get the target environment in Korea, Taiwan, and
    Pakistan will be presented.
  • Then, some perspective on the future connectivity
between CERN and Asia will be presented by
    Olivier Martin at CERN.
  • Then well have some discussion including that on
    what we expect on APAN/IEEAF

6
  • The summary of this workshop will be presented at
  • APAN Engineering Team Meeting 2
  • Friday 24 January, Room E
  •                   "Wishes from HEP"

  •
  •

7
  • Before finishing the introduction, Id like to
show that many Asian countries are participating
in HEP experiments at KEK, at CERN, at Fermilab,
at BNL, and at ..., and requiring the high
broadband / high quality network. Only some
    experiments are shown as examples.
