  • Use to develop outcome level indicators
  • See handout example for natural resource
    environments

9
National Scale IPM Success Stories
  • Starting with apples
  • Additional stories to focus on Almond, Wine
    grapes, Sweet corn
  • Possibly others (e.g., Cotton, DOD and GSA)

10
Ongoing Activities
  • Integration of IPM Guidelines for Fruit and
Vegetable Crops with NRCS Conservation Practices

11
Evaluation of the Cotton Incorporated State
Support Program (SSP) in the Southeastern U.S.A.
  • Crop production and pest management Guideline
    developed and reviewed
  • Large scale Dillman survey completed and
    summarized
  • Currently working to link practice adoption to CI
SSP program mission statement (improving U.S.
    cotton grower profitability)

12
Selected Survey ResultsNot For Publication at
This Time
  • Overwhelming majority of cotton growers have
begun using some form of conservation tillage
(CT) within the last 10 years
  • Many studies relate CT to improved profitability
    and positive environmental impacts
  • 64 of responding growers say it increased
    profitability

13
Selected Survey ResultsNot For Publication at
This Time
  • Over 83 of respondents use RR varieties
  • 30 use RR Flex
  • 66.8 say GMO cotton has improved profitability
  • Several economic studies (although not all) show
    the same

14
Selected Survey ResultsNot For Publication at
This Time
  • 89.5 plant Bt cotton
  • 67 say it has improved profitability
  • 91 say it has decreased their overall
    insecticide use
  • 65 say it has decreased OP use
  • 80 say it has decreased pyrethroid use
  • 42 report using one or more new insecticide
    chemistries (e.g., Tracer )

15
Eco-Apple Protocol and Grower Self Assessment
  • Dramatic growth in sales of certified fruit over
3 years with positive economic benefits
  • 12 participating orchards this year, including
    sites in NY and PA
  • Growers modified 07 protocol to add phosmet to
    red label list
  • Participant use of NY Track Apple software will
allow comparison both to pre-program pesticide
use and to use by non-participating growers

16
Activities Winding Down
  • Integrated and Sustainable Wine Grape Production
in Southern New England W.Coli, S. Schloemann,
    H. Sandler, A. Tuttle, and D. Cooley et al.
    (NESARE-funded)
  • Measuring Apple Worker/IPM Scout Pesticide
Exposure in Standard and Reduced-risk IPM
Systems. W. Coli, J.M. Clark, R. Putnam (NEIPMC
