What is Experiential Learning?
  • A paid or unpaid internship or service learning
    position where students receive college credit
    while completing coursework.

Why should you participate?
  • Apply classroom theory, strategies and ideas in a
    work setting
  • Develop self-discipline and professional identity
  • Clarify educational goals
  • Establish a bridge between the college campus
    and the world of work
  • Document work experience necessary for graduate
    entrance, scholarship and fellowship funding

Who is Eligible?
  • Students with good academic standing as
    established by departmental guidelines
  • Students who demonstrate the maturity necessary
    to perform responsibly in the work world
  • Students who have earned 15-60 credit hours and
    maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

Employment Opportunities
  • Students are encouraged to participate in
    locating an internship site
  • Students are matched with positions reflective of
    their course of study
  • Opportunities exist locally, state and eastcoast
    wide
  • Placements focus around growth industries,
    business and community organizations

How Long Do Internships Last?
  • Internships usually last for one session, either
    a semester or summer session between junior or
    senior year
  • Internships are often completed during summer
    session while students are often residing at home
    or with parents
  • Internships are coordinated to meet the students
    geographical preference

Student Responsibilities
  • Meet with advisors for approval
  • Meet with Center for Experiential Learning
    advisors and complete the intake process
  • Complete all required forms and paperwork
  • Complete a resume
  • Meet with instructors to establish objectives for
    internship
  • Coordinate work schedule with University advisors
  • Agree to be a responsible member of the RU
    student population while in the workplace

  • As Soon As Possible!!
  • Start arranging classes as early as your freshmen
    year to allow time for internship experience!!
  • Visit the Center for Experiential Learning and
    the Career Services Center for information and
    helpful tips to get you started!!
