Anticipated Changes
  • Move CogAT from gr. 6 to gr. 5.
  • Listening to be dropped from WASL.
  • ITBS to be dropped by state after 2004-05.
  • Mini WASLs to be implemented in gr. 3, 5, 6,
    8 in spring 2006 (reading and math only).
  • Goal 2 (social studies, health and fitness,
    arts) classroom assessments to be provided by the
    state by 2008? Not currently intended to be large
    scale assessment.
  • State reading and math goals have been dropped,
    to be replaced by ESEA goals.

Gr. 2 Reading Fluency
  • State required assessment
  • Administered to all gr. 2 students in the fall.
  • Students who do not meet standard are retested in
    the spring.
  • Districts report to the community the percent of
    students reaching standard.
  • 85 of our students met standard in fall 2003.
  • In the spring of 2003, 97 of Mercer Island
    students met standard in reading fluency. The 10
    students who did not received services from
    Special Education and/or the Language Assistance
    Program.
