What do they teach us about us?
  • Myths are often considered to be stories created
to represent the dreams and fears of a society.
  • Myths speak to us because they relate to issues
and problems that every human experiences.
  • This is why myths from different cultures around
the world are so similar (they have all been
    developed by humans).

Comparing Myths
  • Since common threads exist between stories from
many different cultures, it is easy to make
    comparisons between them.
  • The earliest stories from each culture are called
    creation myths.
  • These stories attempt to explain how and why our
    world was created.
  • After comparing the stories, well learn not only
about the different traditions of each culture,
but also ways in which different societies are
    similar!
