Need

• In developing nations, electricity and gas for
  cooking are often unavailable.
• Water often needs to be boiled in order to kill
  pathogens.

Goal and Objective

• The goal of my study was to determine a method
  for modeling an oven with solar concentration.
• The objective was to get the oven hot enough to
  boil water.

Different Methods of Cooking

• Glass-covered Boxes, sometimes with Flat-Plate
  Reflectors to Increase Heat Gain.
• Parabolic Concentrators like those used for
  PV-these can reach very high temperatures.
  Drawbacks- must be aimed at the sun and
  temperature can reach dangerous levels.

Conclusion

• Solar reflectors have a significant impact on the
  effectiveness of solar ovens, as does the hour of
  day at which one is attempting to use them.
• For improved performance, increasing the area of
  the reflector and adding insulation are
  recommended.
