Then
9This is what the pages of your digital gradebook
will look like. It resembles the traditional in
many ways. We all have our own methods of
labeling assessments, figuring and issuing
grades. This program can perform many functions.
Lets start with the basics
10Thinking Digital
- If you have never used and electronic gradebook
before, here are some concepts that may assist in
understanding the process. - You will create a file for each period. If you
teach five periods a day, you will create five
files. - Your gradebook has an autosave feature.
- All files will default to a special, secure
folder on our network. Save, Save, and Save some
more. We will discuss strategies at the
conclusion of our session. - Because information is entered in certain fields,
the computer program will allow the user to
chart, graph many different reports. - With this program we can do more than just
calculate grades. We hope to demonstrate the
numerous functions that can be utilized using
GradeQuick.
11- Name Limited to eight characters Like Ch. 1
- Long Name This can be more detail Like
Fractions p. 21-23 - Term This is the six week term we are in. The
first term is 1 - Category This is important. A category is like
test or quiz or homework. It is important
because the teacher can sort or graph according
to a given category. - Date The date of the assessment
- Possible The number of points of a given
assessment - ID Can be used for any student identification
12We work on a six week term at PHS. Grades are
cumulative which total a final average. Three
six week terms make up our semester. Because the
current screen only shows a final average, we
must first set a subtotal column. Click View
and select Subtotals
13Select Terms and Total Points. This subtotal
column will allow the teacher to see what a
students grade was at the end of a given term,
but also provide the teacher with a total for the
semester. Once you click OK the box will
disappear. A Subtotal column will appear when
you add the first assessment!
14Add a test
Add a student
Notice, I have typed in student names. Click in
the box and type. The up and down arrow will
allow you to alphabetize your list at any time.
15What I have done is simulated a term. The
subtotal column and the final total column are
alike. But, as soon as we enter term two, we
will be prompted/reminded that we have entered a
new term or marking period and a second subtotal
column will appear. This will allow the teacher
to view not only the students current grade but
also the grades that were on the last term.
16Attendance
This program will allow the teacher to keep
period attendance. At this point, we must follow
the building procedure for sending attendance to
the proper office however, this program will
allow the teacher a means to keep an accurate
record.
17You can use this program to take attendance. At
this time, we do not have the capability to
export that data to the Attendance Office.
Therefore, teachers will still need to follow the
building procedure for reporting student absences
to the Attendance Office. The process we are
about to perform will need to be done for each
file of your gradebook. Remember, one class
period equals one file. If you teach five
periods, each class will have a file in your
gradebook program. So, you will need to open
each file and do the following 1. Pull down the
Edit menu, go down to Attendance, and then
over to Set First Day of Class as shown above.
18Enter the first day of class and click OK.
Warning, The program will not allow you to set a
date that is in the future. Thus, if you attempt
to do this step today, it will not work.
19Now, you must add the start date of each of the
remaining two terms in the first semester. Do
so and click OK.
20Now that you have set the start date of class and
set the term dates, when you click the Attendance
Button, the chart will appear. Blank would be
present, or click the down arrow to enter absent
or tardy. The teacher can add different codes for
attendance. Once again, this must be done for
each period taught and does not take the place of
the scantron procedure.
