1STAR STORIES
2 The Inuit made over a hundred string
games before European contact which included
star maps depicting such constellation as
Orion and the Pleiades.
Other North American tribes, Ojibwa, Micmac,
Cherokee, Lakota, Navajo, Pawnee and Zuni
weaved this tradition into their string art
and into their star stories.

5This petroglyph was carved in Kejimkujik, Nova
Scotia on Mikmaq ancestral land. It depicts the
story of Mikmaq Women who married Star
Husbands.
The story tells of two sisters who pointed out
stars they wished to marry. To their surprise
they woke up the next morning with new husbands
and found themselves in the world above the
sky. Their husbands eventually returned them
when they became upset, but gave them
strict instructions on how to live in their
world.
