Career Pathways
  • History and Challenge
  • Achieve Texas information is given at various TEA
conferences Summer 2006. School districts are
    charged with implementation.
  • CTE consultant, Dotty Oelkers, hired to review
programs and 5-year strategic plan was
    developed/presented to school board.
  • National ACTE meeting Dec. 2006 attendance at
Career Pathways seminar by V. Wehring, J. Nava,
    M. Ziegenhals, and T. Holub
  • Development of LCISD Career Pathways core group
with those attending ACTE meeting and E. Teran
    Spring 2007

History continued
  • CTE instructors Lindsey and Brown work with D.
Oelkers on how to begin CTE portion of Achieve
    Texas Spring 2007
  • Group of LCISD teachers, administrators,
counselors visit Leander, Deer Park and Aldine
    concerning their districts process and

Finally,
  • Mr. Teran, Dr. Randle and all secondary
administrators had a meeting to discuss our
findings about what other districts are doing
concerning pathways in July 2007. A decision was
to have a meeting in August to learn more about
    Leander.
  • Video conference was held with Leander ISD
    regarding their 20-year implementation of
pathways. A to-do list was developed,
    subcommittees were determined, and another
    meeting scheduled for administrators.

5
What is the charge of this group?
  • As a subcommittee, we are
  • To begin to pull all LCISD courses into the 16
federal career pathways and subdivide the
pathways into workable steps for our students.
  • To begin to define the possibilities for our
students using this type of passport/step system

6
Not everyone goes to college, but everyone goes
to work. And most of those that go to college
also go to work.
7
  • About 50 of all those who attempt a
    baccalaureate degree will dropout.
