The Jehovah's Witness Organization is the prophet
of God
  • "So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to
warn them of dangers and to declare things to
come? These questions can be answered in the
    affirmative. Who is this prophet?...This
"prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men
and women. It was the small group of footstep
followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as
International Bible Students. Today they are
    known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses....Of
course, it is easy to say that this group acts as
a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove
    it," (Watchtower, Apr. 1, 1972, p. 197).

4
What does the Bible Say about dependence upon man
to know God?
  • NIV Eph 117-18 (Apostle Paul)
  • I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the
Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may
    know him better.
  • I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be
enlightened in order that you may know the hope
to which he has called you, the riches of his
    glorious inheritance in the saints,

5
Beliefs Apocalyptic
  • Focused on end times
  • Waiting for paradise on earth after battle of
    Armageddon

6
Future Paradise on earth
  • Only 144,000 anointed will go to heaven
  • Hell does not exist evil people will simply be
    annihilated

7
Salvation
  • You may be saved, depending on your faithfulness
    and obedience
  • "To get one's name written in that book of life
will depend on one's works, whether they are in
fulfillment of God's will and approved by his
Judge and King." (Watchtower, August 15, 1972).
  • Just as a proper secular education is necessary
to fit a person for a place in everyday society,
so a proper Bible education is necessary to equip
one for entering the society that will survive to
live in the Paradise earth. -- from Jehovahs
    Witnesses web site

8
A Jehovah's Witness must become worthy of
salvation
  • When a person, on the basis of the Scriptural
knowledge he has gained, has belief in Christ as
the Savior whom God provided and shows that faith
by his works, he can consider himself as being on
the way to salvation. It would be a mistake for
him to think that he is now saved and cannot
fall. He must show by his endurance in the
Christian faith that he is worthy of salvation.
"Let him that thinks he has a firm position
beware that he does not fall." 1 Cor. 1012...
Salvation from death is a gift from God to those
that obey him, not to those that disobey,"
    (Watchtower, March 1, 1960, p. 134).

9
Salvation according to the Bible
  • NIV Eph 28-10 (Apostle Paul)
  • For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the
    gift of God
  • not by works, so that no one can boast.
  • For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in
    advance for us to do.

10
Doctrine of the Trinity
  • Denial of trinity
  • JW Claims trinity comes from ancient mythology
  • a complicated, freakish-looking, three-headed
God -- Let God Be True

11
Doctrine of the Trinity
  • Denial of trinity
  • "Never was there a more deceptive doctrine
advanced than that of the trinity"
    (Reconciliation, 1928 )

12
Doctrine of the Trinity
  • Denial of trinity
  • "...sincere persons who want to know the true God
and serve him find it a bit difficult to love and
    worship a complicated, freakish-looking,
three-headed God" (Let God Be True, 1946)
  • "Satan is the originator of the trinity doctrine"
    (Ibid.)

13
What does the Bible Say about the Father being
God?
  • NIV Phi 12 (Apostle Paul)
  • The Father is God!
  • Grace and peace to you from God our Father and
    the Lord Jesus Christ.

14
What does the Bible Say about the Holy Spirit
being God?
  • NIV Act 53-4 (Apostle Peter)
  • The Holy Spirit is God!
  • Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan
has so filled your heart that you have lied to
the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some
of the money you received for the land?
  • NIV Act 54 Didn't it belong to you before it was
sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at
your disposal? What made you think of doing such
a thing? You have not lied to men but to God."

15
What does the Bible Say about the Lord Jesus
being God?
  • NIV Col 29 (Apostle Paul) NIV Joh 11,14
    (Apostle John)
  • The Lord Jesus is God!
  • For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives
    in bodily form
  • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God.
  • The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among
us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One
and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace
    and truth.

16
Do we have three Gods?
  • NIV Isa 455 Isa 446 Isa 4522
  • I am the LORD, and there is no other apart from
    me there is no God.
  • This is what the LORD says-- Israel's King and
Redeemer, the LORD Almighty I am the first and I
am the last apart from me there is no God.
  • Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the
earth for I am God, and there is no other.

17
Core issue Christology
  • As fascinating as all the date setting and
    shifting is . . .
  • As fascinating as the issues of blood
transfusions and saluting the flag may be . . .
  • The core of our disagreement with our Jehovahs
Witness friends centers on Jesus Christ

18
Latter day Arians
  • Arianism -- a 4th century heresy denying deity of
Christ, saying Jesus was the first thing God
    created
  • At Jesus death, God disposed of Jesus physical
    body.
  • Because Jesus was raised a spirit creature, God
had to materialize a fleshly body for him
  • There is no basis for any of this anywhere in the
    Bible.

19
Is Jesus Michael the Archangel?
  • "...the Son of God was known as Michael before he
came to earth" (Reasoning from the Scriptures, p.
    218).
  • There is no basis for any of this anywhere in the
    Bible.

20
Is Jesus Michael the Archangel?
  • "Read carefully the following Bible account 'War
broke out in heaven Michael who is the
resurrected Jesus Christ and his angels battled
with the dragon'" (You Can Live Forever in
    Paradise on Earth, 1982, p. 21).
  • There is no basis for any of this anywhere in the
    Bible.

21
Can Jesus be Michael the Archangel?
  • Michael, on his own, could not rebuke Satan
  • NIV Jud 19 But even the archangel Michael, when
he was disputing with the devil about the body of
Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous
accusation against him, but said, "The Lord
    rebuke you!"
  • yet Jesus Himself rebukes Satan.
  • NIV Mat 410 Jesus said to him, "Away from me,
Satan! For it is written 'Worship the Lord your
    God, and serve him only.'"

22
Can Jesus be Michael the Archangel?
  • Hebrews 25 says an angel can't rule the world,
i.e. It is not to angels that he has subjected
the world to come, about which we are speaking.
  • Rev 1916 show Jesus Christ to be the one who
    will reign,
  • On his robe and on his thigh he has this name
    written
  • KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
  • Therefore, Jesus and Michael can't be one and the
    same.

23
Jehovah Witnesses on Hell
  • Hell, as the term is commonly understood, does
    not exist.
  • ("Make Sure of All Things, pp. 229-242.)

24
Is there an eternal hell?
  • There is no eternal hell for the wicked. All
"unbelievers" will be annihilated, and simply
    cease to exist.
  • "unbelievers" will be annihilated, and simply
cease to exist. "The fiendish concepts
associated with a hell of torment slander God and
originate with the chief slanderer of God (the
Devil)" (Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985).

25
Is there an eternal hell?
  • NIV Mat 2546
  • "Then they will go away to eternal punishment,
but the righteous to eternal life.
  • NIV Rev 1411
  • And the smoke of their torment rises for ever
and ever. There is no rest day or night for those
who worship the beast and his image, or for
anyone who receives the mark of his name.

26
Is there an eternal hell?
  • NIV Rev 1920
  • But the beast was captured, and with him the
false prophet who had performed the miraculous
signs on his behalf. With these signs he had
deluded those who had received the mark of the
beast and worshiped his image. The two of them
were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning
    sulfur.
  • NIV Rev 2010
  • And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into
the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and
the false prophet had been thrown. They will be
tormented day and night for ever and ever.

27
Jesus as mediator
  • "Likewise, the Greater Moses, Jesus Christ, is
not the Mediator between Jehovah God and all
mankind. He is the Mediator between his heavenly
Father, Jehovah God, and the nation of spiritual
Israel, which is limited to only 144,000
members," ("The Desire for Peace and Security
    Worldwide," 1986, p. 10).

28
Jesus as mediator
  • Hebrews 1224
  • and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant,
and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better
    than the blood of Abel
  • 1 Timothy 25
  • For there is one God, and one mediator also
between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
  • Hebrews 86
  • But now He has obtained a more excellent
ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator
of a better covenant, which has been enacted on
    better promises

29
Jesus is Abaddon and Apollyon the Destroyer
  • "When Jesus was on earth as a man, he was a
Hebrew, and now in his capacity as Jehovah's
royal Executioner he is called by the Hebrew name
Abad'don, which means Destruction. In the Greek
in which the inspired Christian Scriptures were
written his similar title is Apollyon, which
    means Destroyer," (Watchtower, Dec. 1, 1961, p.
    719).
  • Abaddon is the Hebrew for the ruling angel in
    hell.
  • Apollyon is the Greek equivelant.
  • Is it Jesus? No.
  • The New Topical Textbook lists Abaddon and
    Apollyon as names of Satan.
  • The Bible Knowledge Commentary does the same.

30
Jehovah Witnesses on The "little flock"
  • The "little flock" of Luke 1232 is equated with
the 144,000 of Revelation chapters 7 and 14.30
The 144,000 are sealed from among all nations to
    become "spiritual Israel.
  • ("Aid to Bible Understanding, p. 683)

31
Jehovah Witnesses on The " sealing of the
144,000 "
  • The sealing of the 144,000 began at Pentecost, 33
C.E., and continues to the present day.
  • ("Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of
    God, p. 161
  • Our Incoming World Government-God's Kingdom, p.
    120)

32
Jehovah Witnesses on surviving the great
tribulation"
  • By believing in Christ and by taking refuge in
Jehovah's organization, men can now hope to
survive the great tribulation and enter directly
into the earthly realm of the kingdom.
  • ("The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life, pp. 23,
    121)

33
Jehovah Witnesses on the rapture"
  • The "rapture" occurred invisibly in the year
    1918.
  • ("Babylon the Great has Fallen, p. 458)

34
Jehovah Witnesses on Return of Christ
  • Christ will not have a visible return to earth.
  • (" Make Sure of All Things, p. 451
  • Reasoning from the Scriptures, p. 314, 343)

35
Jehovah Witnesses on Gods prophet on earth "
  • The Watchtower Society boldly
  • makes the exclusive claim to be
  • Gods prophet on earth, the only organization
that God uses to communicate to mankind today.
  • ("All Scripture Is Inspired of
  • God and Beneficial,
  • 1990 ed., p.9)

36
Jehovah Witnesses on Old Testament prophets,
would rise "
  • Under the leadership of the second president,
Judge Rutherford, an aggressive campaign called
Millions Now Living Will Never Die was launched.
  • In this campaign it was predicted that in 1925,
Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and many other Old
Testament prophets, would rise from the dead and
appear as perfected humans on the earth.
  • (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, 1920,
    pp.89,90)

37
Jehovah Witnesses on The end predicted "
  • The end was first predicted in 1914 by the
Watchtowers founder, C.T. Russell. When it
didnt occur the date was changed to 1915, and
    later to 1918.

    Scriptures, Vol. 2, 1907 ed., p.101

    Time is at Hand, 1889.  p. 256)

    Kingdom Come, 1891. p58,63,64

Replaced by 1914 in 1932 What is Truth?
40
Jehovah Witnesses on 1918 Last call 144,000"
  • 1918 Fall of Babylon, close of call to be among
144.000. This year is still held by JWs to be
date for fall of Babylon, "all false religion."
  • Revelation Climax p260 which says "So by 1919
    Babylon the Great had fallen".
  • Current JW doctrine. Close of "high calling" was
    later moved to 1935.

41
Jehovah Witnesses on Trinity "
  • There is no Trinity,
  • Let God be True, p. 100-101 Make Sure of All
    Things, p.386.

42
Jehovah Witnesses on The Holy Spirit "
  • The Holy Spirit is a force, not alive,
  • Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985, p.406-407.

43
Jehovah Witnesses on Jesus "not raised a human
creature "
  • Jesus was raised "not a human creature, but a
    spirit.
  • Let God be True, p. 276.

44
Jehovah Witnesses on Jesus invisible rule "
  • Jesus began his invisible rule over the earth in
    1914,
  • The Truth Shall Make You Free,p. 300.

45
Jehovah Witnesses on the 6 creative days "
  • Each of the 6 creative days of God in Genesis 1,
was 7000 years long.  Therefore, Man was created
toward the end of 42,000 years of
    earth'spreparation,
  • Let God be True, p. 168.

46
Jehovah Witnesses on Satan charged overseeing
the creation "
  • Satan was entrusted with the obligation and
charged with the duty of overseeing the creation
    of the earth,
  • Children, p. 55.

47
Jehovah Witnesses on The creative week "
  • The creative week itself began about 46,025 B.C.,
    according to the Bible's timetable.
  • (New Heavens And A New Earth 1953 pp. 43)

48
Jehovah Witnesses on The seventh day "
  • That "seventh day" on which God desisted from
work and which he consecrated was not a 24-hour
day, but it is of the length of the preceding six
    days.
  • The Bible speaks of this "seventh day" as still
continuing, because it is 7,000 years long. (What
Has Religion Done For Mankind? 1951 pp. 47)

49
Jehovah Witnesses on Jehovah's first creation "
  • Jehovah's first creation was his "only-begotten
Son" (Joh 316), "the beginning of the creation
by God." (Re 314) This one, "the firstborn of
all creation," was used by Jehovah in creating
all other things, those in the heavens and those
upon the earth, "the things visible and the
things invisible." (Col 115-17) (Insight vol.1,
    p.527)

50
Jehovah Witnesses on dwelling-place of Jehovah
"
  • The constellation of the seven stars forming the
Pleiades appears to be the crowning center around
which the known systems of the planets revolve
even as our sun's planets obey the sun and travel
in their respective orbits. It has been
suggested, and with much weight, that one of the
stars of that group is the dwelling-place of
Jehovah and the place of the highest heavens...
  • (Reconciliation 1928 pp. 14)

51
Jehovah Witnesses on habitation of Jehovah "
  • The face of the deep, of course, would be toward
the Pleiades, which are claimed to be the
    habitation of Jehovah.
  • (Creation 1927 pp. 94)

52
Jehovah Witnesses on no soul without a body "
  • But on the other hand there can be no soul, no
sentient being without a body - heavenly or
    earthly, spiritual or animal.
  • (At-One-Ment Between God And Man, 1899 1915 ed.
    p.339).

53
Jehovah Witnesses on Watchtower rejects God's
omniscience"
  • Certainly Jehovah God had not planned matters
this way. He now had to adapt himself to the new
    set of circumstances."
  • (God's "Eternal Purpose" Now Triumphing For Man's
    Good 1974 pp. 97)

54
Jehovah Witnesses on Elijah" work was finished
and the "Elishah" began "
  • In the book Let Your Name Be Sanctified Fred
Franz tells JWs that in 1942, when upon his
deathbed Rutherford appointed Franz and Knorr to
head up the Society, the "Elijah" work was
    finished and the "Elishah" began.
  • This work, he wrote, began in the 1870s with
Russell. Putting this together with Russell's
teachings on "the Ten Virgins", it would seem
that William Miller really began this modern-day
Elijah work and is the spiritual father of
    Jehovah's Witnesses.

55
Jehovah Witnesses on the biblical test of the
true prophet "
  • The Watchtower Society as revealed through its
publications has failed not only the biblical
test of the true prophet, as found in Deuteronomy
1822, but even its own test "Jehovah, the God
of the true prophets, will put all false prophets
to shame either by not fulfilling the false
predictions of such self-assuming prophets or by
having His own prophecies fulfilled in such a way
opposite to that predicted by the false prophets.
False prophets will try to hide their reason for
feeling shame by denying who they really are.

  • The Great Tribulation is very near ,
  • True Peace and SecurityFrom What Source? (1973),

57
Jehovah Witnesses on The spirit is much like
electricity "
  • "The spirit is much like electricity, which
activates many things but does not take on their
    qualities."
  • Is This Life All There Is?, 1974, p.51

58
Jehovah Witnesses on The spirit is our
life-force "
  • "The spirit is our life-force.
  • You Can Live Forever in Paradise on Earth, 1982,
    p.79

59
Jehovah Witnesses on transferal of the life of
his firstborn Son "
  •    "the transferal of the life of his firstborn
Son from the spirit realm to earth. Only in this
way could the child eventually born have retained
identity as the same person who had resided in
    heaven as the Word."
  • Aid to Bible Understanding, 1971, p.920

60
Jehovah Witnesses on Only Michael's life force
, not his body, was transferred "
  •    Only Michael's life force , not his body, was
    transferred from heaven to earth.
  •      "...this did not mean that one of the
heavenly spirit sons of God was sent to crawl
    into Mary's body...Such a thing is unreasonable
    and an absurdity.
  • God's Eternal Purpose Now Triumphing, 1974,
    p.137

61
Jehovah Witnesses on the man Jesus is dead,
forever dead "
  •    "...the man Jesus is dead, forever dead,..."
    Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. 5, 1899, p. 454
  •      This means that after three days, what was
"resurrected" was really a totally different
"creation" by God of a being who never existed
before! After carefully reading all that the
    Watchtower Society teaches about Michael/Jesus,
it becomes obvious that the Jehovah's Witnesses
    believe in 3 different "Jesuses"
  • 1. The pre-existent Michael the Archangel
  • 2. A mere earthly man who did not contain the
    personality of Michael
  • 3. A newly-created exalted angel who resides in
    heaven

62
Jehovah Witnesses on the Son of God is known as
Michael in heaven"
  • "...the Son of God was known as Michael before he
came to earth and is known also by that name
    after his return to heaven..."
  • Reasoning From the Scriptures, 1985, p.218

63
Jehovah Witnesses on When did this Jesus become
actually 'Christ"
  • "When did this Jesus become actually 'Christ the
Lord'? Not on the eighth day of his birth, when
he was circumcised. He was not anointed on that
day. It was when he was thirty years old."
  • ("Holy Spirit - The force behind the coming new
    order," 1975, p. 90.)
  • "Jesus was anointed with holy spirit after his
baptism in water and he thus became Christ or
Anointed One, so too with his disciples."
  • ("Holy Spirit - The force behind the coming new
    order," 1975, p. 113.)

Jehovah Witnesses on Governing Body members is
quickly drying up "
  • JWs teach that in 1935 the number was completed
and no new members of the 144,000 can be added.
Thus, the pool from which the Society can choose
new Governing Body members is quickly drying up
