• Luke 1331-32a
• Just at that time some Pharisees approached,
  saying to Him, "Go away, leave here, for Herod
  wants to kill You. And He said to them,
• "Go and tell that fox . . .

Who Was Herod?

• Luke 31-2
• Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of
  Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor
  of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and
  his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of
  Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was
  tetrarch of Abilene,  in the high priesthood of
  Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John,
  the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.

The Practice of that Fox

• Luke 318-20
• So with many other exhortations he preached the
  gospel to the people. But when Herod the
  tetrarch was reprimanded by him because of
  Herodias, his brother's wife, and because of all
  the wicked things which Herod had done, Herod
  also added this to them all he locked John up in
  prison.

What Was a Fox

• In the ancient Hebrew culture, foxes were often
  compared to lions. Lions represented the noble
  and wise. Foxes, in ancient Rabbinical
  literature, represented those of contemptible
  pedigree, low morality, and weakness.

The Lion from the Tribe of Judah

• Revelation 54-5
• Then I began to weep greatly because no one was
  found worthy to open the book or to look into it
  and one of the elders said to me, "Stop weeping
  behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah,
  the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the
  book and its seven seals."

• The record of the genealogy of Jesus the
  Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham
   Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the
  father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah
  and his brothers.

A Contrast of Two Kings

• Jesus of Nazareth is
• 1- Of the legitimate line of Davidic Kings
• 2- Without sin or duplicity
• 3- Sovereign over all

• Herod Antipas is
• 1 - Of the illegitimate line of Herod the Great
• 2- Full of sin and lawlessness
• 3- A cream puff

Who Is In Control?

• Luke 1332b
• 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures
  today and tomorrow, and the third day I reach My
  goal.'

1 Understand that All Rulers Are Under
Christs Control

• Matthew 2818-20
• And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying,
  "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and
  on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all
  the nations, baptizing them in the name of the
  Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching
  them to observe all that I commanded you and lo,

2 If the world hated Christ, it will hate His
followers

  you are not of the world, but I chose you out of
  the world, because of this the world hates you.

  HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION,
  so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him
  who has called you out of darkness into His
  marvelous light.
