Title: ZIYARAH: STRENGTHENING OUR RELATIONSHIP

1
ZIYARAH STRENGTHENING OUR RELATIONSHIP
2
Let us improve our piety (taqwa) and good deeds
by obeying Allahs entire commands and omitting
all the forbidden.
3
Blessed Muslims, Our honorable guest, Ramadhan
left us together with its blessings, mercy,
forgiveness and generosity that we do not
experience in any other month. Today we are in
the month of Syawal, celebrating and rejoicing
our victory in taming our desires and increasing
and strengthening our taqwa (Gods
consciousness) in Ramadhan.
4
Therefore, let us not waste our hard work in
Ramadhan with things that weaken our taqwa and
incite our worldly desires beyond our control.
Let us instead, filled this Syawal with actions
according to the sunnah (teachings of Rasulullah
s.a.w.) so that we will always be rewarded and
forgiven by Allah s.w.t.
5
Among the ibadah (acts of worship) that are
encouraged for us to perform is fasting six days
and ziyarah (visiting) our relatives and friends.
The practice of ziyarah has a lot of wisdom and
advantages for Muslims.
6
Most importantly, it flourishes neighborly
relationship. Islam highly encourages the Muslims
to improve their relationships among themselves.
Allah s.w.t says in Al-Quran
7
The believers are nothing else than brothers
(in Islamic religion). So make reconciliation
between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you
may receive mercy.
(Al-Hujuraat verse 10)
8
Blessed Muslims, In the midst of celebrating
Syawal and visiting each other, let us together
recall and practice the adaab (etiquette or
manners) of visiting others so that Allah blesses
us and that we are rewarded for our actions.
9
In particular, there two types of adaab related
to the topic of visiting1- adaab as a guest2-
adaab as a host
10
Among the adaab as a guest are 1- To ask for the
permission of the home-owner, and greet before
enter the house.
11
Allah s.w.t says in Al-Quran O you who
believe! Enter not houses other than your own,
until you have asked permission and greeted those
in them, that is better for you, in order that
you may remember. (An-Noor verse 27)
12
Rasulullah s.a.w saysIndeed the best person
to Allah is those who started the greetings.

(Riwayat Abu Dawud)
13
2- To shake the hands Rasulullah s.a.w says No
two Muslims that meet and shake their hands,
except that they will be forgiven by Allah
before they depart. (Riwayat Abu Dawud)
14
However, this practice must be done according to
the Islamic guidelines. We should not follow the
way of the west or non-Muslims, such as shaking
our hands with the non-mahram. Such will only
invite the anger of Allah.
15
3- To sit only at the designated place. A guest
should not feel free to do anything when they
enter the house of others because it will disturb
the owner. Rasulullah s.a.w says
16
Whoever enter the gathering of others should sit
at the designated/prepared place for the owner
knows their house better. (Riwayat
Muslim)
17
Blessed Muslims, Islam also outlines the adaab
that should be observed by the host. Among them
are   1- To respect and honor the guest.
Rasulullah s.a.w said
18
Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day
should show hospitality to his guest.
(Muttafaqun Alaih)
19
2- To serve ones best food within ones
capability. To provide the guests with the best
service has always been practiced by the previous
prophets. Allah s.w.t recorded the story of
Prophet Ibrahim and his honorable manner towards
his guests in Al-Quran
20
And verily, there came Our Messengers to Ibrahim
(Abraham) with glad tidings. They said Salam
(greetings or peace!) He answered, Salam
(greetings or peace!) and he hastened to
entertain them with a roasted calf.
(Hud
verse 69)
21
Blessed Muslims, In this happiness of celebrating
the Syawal and visiting others, we should
remember a few things to be avoided such as being
wasteful or being extreme in serving the foods
and decorating the house. Allah s.w.t hates those
who are wasteful.
22
Apart from that, we should fulfil the
invitations, but at the same time, please
remember to fast the six days of Syawal. The
benefits of fasting these six days is mentioned
by Rasulullah s.a.w
23
Whoever fast in Ramadhan and followed it with
six days in Syawal, it is as if he fasted for one
whole year. (Riwayat Muslim)
24
Blessed Muslims, Let us make this Syawal as a
continuation of Ramadhan, let us continue to
strengthen our taqwa and iman (belief) in Allah
s.w.t. Let us not be too careless and neglectful
in performing our daily salaah (five daily
prayers) in the busyness of visiting others.
25
Indeed, the salaah is the pillar of this
religion. Therefore, it should be performed
perfectly in all aspects, especially with regards
to its timing. Allah s.w.t says in Al-Quran
26
Verily, As-Salaah (the prayer) is enjoined on
the believers at fixed hours.
(An-Nisa verse 103)
27
We should not be among those who perform the
solaah but are being cursed because of their very
solaah. Allah s.w.t says
28
So woe to the worshippers, who are neglectful of
their prayers.
(Al-Maun verse 4 - 5)
29
Blessed Muslims, Let us together ensure that this
Syawal is another way to strengthen our taqwa and
iman, and that we will be continuously blessed
and rewarded by Allah s.w.t.
30
Indeed whosoever purifies himself (by avoiding
polytheism and accepting Islamic Monotheism)
shall achieve success. And remembers (glorifies)
the Name of his Lord (worships none but Allah),
and prays (five compulsory prayers and Nawafil
additional prayers).
31
Nay, you prefer the life of this world. Although
the Hereafter is better and more lasting. Verily,
this is in the former Scriptures The Scriptures
of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Musa (Moses).
(Al-Ala verse 14 - 19)
