What is Single Stream Recycling?
  • Single Stream recycling allows all recyclable
material to go into a single container.
  • You will no longer need to separate containers
    and paper.
  • It is more efficient, easier in the home and for
businesses, less costly to collect and includes
more materials (1 through 7 plastics).
  • Single Stream results in disposal cost savings,
greater quantities of recyclables, and savings on
    operating and collection costs.

Why is Co-op Considering Single Stream
  • Co-op Joint Board directed me to investigate.
    Started in 2005.
  • Expect increased tipping fee in 2010. New contact
with Wheelabrator. Going from 45.90/ton to 60 -
    65/ton.
  • Many Cooperative and associate communities will
recycle more at less cost with single stream.
    win/win
  • Siting of new landfills very difficult.
  • Recycling markets have been very stable until
    recently.

9
What is Co-ops Plan ?
  • Investigating the possible construction of a
    single stream facility. 15 million.
  • Need more recyclable material than Co-op
communities can provide. Need 10,000 tons.
  • Will be a publicly owned and privately operated
    facility. 25,000 tons/year to start.
  • Purchased (2 Million) site for facility. Exit 17
off I-93 in Penacook next to WTE facility.
  • Building design underway and equipment packages
    out to bid.
