ABSTRACT
  • This PowerPoint describes and illustrates the
academic program offered by the Hebrew University
in cooperation with the Home for Bible
Translators. The program is designed to
significantly reduce the artificiality of the
    cognitive environment of mother tongue
translators by teaching the source language in
the original context. Vivid examples from the
realia of the land illustrate the gains to be
    achieved.

Only when we put a passage back into its
comprehensive and integrated historical,
geographical, literary, cultural and visual
context, will we have the best chance to
understand what those words mean in the often
breath-taking, three dimensional, timeless way
the passage was meant to be understood Doug

Different Cultures
The vast difference in culture
of people from different countries
is a main cause of different understandings of
the scripture. There is no equivalence to
seeing and experiencing the Land by yourself.

The mission of HBT is to provide

translators artificial cognitive environment

Gaining Cognitive Resemblance To the Source
Source CE
A student from Congo First of all, I would like
to let you know that the time we spent in Israel
has opened our entire world view about the Bible.
We are not reading the Bible as we used to do. It
has been put in context. The amount of
information we received is the best foundation we
could have received.
