  • What is PowerSTRIPES
  • Suite of tools that facilitate authoring,
automatic production and presentation of an AAR
  • ProductViewer (PV)
  • Data collection
  • Replay
  • MS Access
  • AAR Product Definition Language (APDL) Wizard
  • Concept of operation
  • Exercise is planned
  • Author the Take Home Package
  • Collect the data
  • Conduct Near Real-time Replay
  • Auto generation of products during data
    collection
  • Refine and complete Take Home Package
  • Conduct 2D/3D Replay
  • Analysis of raw data

3
PowerSTRIPES (continued)
  • Key Features
  • Not a "Stove Pipe" solution
  • Abstracts product generation away from the
    database schema
  • Abstracts data collection away from the
    simulation system
  • Allows the user to plan After Action Review
topics and High Interest Events prior to exercise
execution. This can be done on any PC (i.e., you
are not tied to the simulation center and can be
done at the users base of operations).
  • Allows user to build and use Templates of topics
    and High Interest Events.
  • Integrates Microsoft Office applications, such as
Excel and PowerPoint to provide user with
    familiar editing environment.
  • Automatically builds PowerPoint Slides with
products based data retrieved from the execution
    of an exercise.

4
PowerSTRIPES (continued)
  • Key Features (continued)
  • Streamlined automated process to support exercise
    recording, analysis and playback
  • Products include PVD, Maps, Charts, Graphs,
Timelines, Excel Worksheets, Data Queries, etc.
  • Allows the user to customize the generation of
    the products, including echelon levels,
participant scope, time frame, and many others.
  • Allows the user to manipulate the Products using
    standard Microsoft Office capabilities.
  • Products can be viewed during exercise execution,
after the exercise, or as a standalone Take Home
    Package (THP) in PowerPoint format.
  • Support for a variety of Simulation
    Systems/Environments, including OTB, DIS and
OneSAF. Plugins are in the works to take
advantages of system-specific data available in
other environments such as JAAR and HLA systems.

5
PowerSTRIPES (continued)
  • Use of standards
  • 2525B symbols
  • ODBC
  • XML
  • SQL

6
Binder Manager
  • Concept
  • Provides centralized location for storage of all
data and products for a given run of an exercise.
  • The binder can be taken back to home base for
further review and\or analysis of the data.
  • New/Open Binder
  • Creating a new binder populates the binder
structure with a set of default elements needed
    to conduct AAR.
  • Opening a preexisting binder initializes the ODBC
    database.
  • Shortcuts Menu
  • Provides access to various tools within the
    PowerSTRIPES suite.
  • Individual shortcuts to be discussed in following
    slides.

7
Data collection
  • System Abstraction Layer (SAL)
  • ODBC databases
  • Microsoft Access
  • PostgreSQL
  • Supports other ODBC databases as well.
  • Snapshots
  • Provide capability to generate products for a
given period of time even if no update occurred
    for the entity/unit.
  • Subscriptions
  • Provide mechanism to reduce the set of events
that data is being collected for.

8
Take Home Package (THP)
  • Insertion of previously created presentation
    template.
  • Most units will have a set of slides that they
like to use on a regular basis
  • THP templates can be shared between units
  • After the template is inserted the AAR Wizard
provides the user with the option to generate the
    slides contained in the template
  • Customization/Creation of THP
  • Insert products (map, chart, table...) into an
    existing or blank template
  • Save customization or creation as a new template
  • Product examples
  • Boiler Plate
  • Text
  • Maps
  • Charts
  • Tables
  • Task Organization
