  • .

What is the issue ? What outcome are you
seeking? What has been done about it
previously? Who could you collaborate with /seek
advice from? What timeframe? How will you
evaluate it? How will it be continued if
successful? Do you have support?
7
Important Matters
  • Where possible, the project should take place
    within the year of funding.
  • Avoid requesting funds for core business.
  • Detail how the initiative will be evaluated and
on what grounds it will be judged successful.
  • Explain how the initiative focuses upon equity
    groups.
  • Explain how, if successful, the initiative will
be sustained and embedded in on-going practice

8
Evaluation
  • Clearly identify how you will evaluate the
success (or otherwise) of your initiative.
  • Your problem/opportunity defines your outcomes.
  • If your problem was attrition, then an outcome
    will be reduction of attrition.
  • Your evaluation may involve quantitative or
    qualitative measures, or both.

9
and reporting
  • Formal reporting requirements
  • Project progress report December
  • Request to showcase in Diversity Week
  • (Equity Office)
  • Detailed expenditure by 15th December 2009
    (Academic Registrar)
  • All funds expended
  • Request for carry over
  • Return unexpended funds
  • How will you disseminate outcomes of your work
    through UQ?

10
Finally
  • Ensure you have senior support
  • Be clear and not too ambitious small,
sustainable gains are better than grand failures
  • Obtain School or Faculty contribution
  • Have clear objectives
  • Ensure the rationale is well researched

Good luck
