  • WHAT IS THE EFFECT OF LAUGHING ON BLOOD PRESSURE
OF PEOPLE ATTENDED LAUGHING CLUB REGUARLY FOR 8
    WEEKS?

3
AIMSTo find out the effect of laughing on the
blood pressure
  • OBJECTIVES
  • To find the effect of laughing on the blood
    pressure.
  • To find the long term and short term effect of
    laughing on BP.

INTRODUCTION
5
Hypertension in a population at
large Hypertension remains a common serious
problem contributing in a major way to the most
common cause of the morbidity mortality in
developed societies .The major consequences of
HT are coronary artery disease stroke . It is
estimated that DBP persistently higher by 5.0 mm
of Hg is associated with at least 34 increase in
stroke risk and at least 21 increase in CHD
riskHT has been a devil disease for elderly
people particularly after 5th decade of life
but in modern times due to change in lifestyle
standard of living, it has also made the younger
younger population in both developed
developing countries its victim .
6
Laughing is non drug therapy
Prevention is better than cure The moral is
rising it value Laughter is the best medicine
ever The inexpensive highly effective
treatment of HT is laughingIt is proved that
moderate physical exercise , change in lifestyle
, reduction in stress tension will definitely
reduce blood pressure associated complication
7
Incidence Prevalence Incidence
is of limited value in HT because of variability
of consecutive readings of individual , ambiguity
of what normal BP insidious nature of disease
In industrialized countries, prevalence increase
to 25, have DBP gt 90mmHg 10-20 among adults
The prevalence of HT in INDIA was following -
In urban 59.9 in male
- 69.9 in female In rural
35.5 in male -35.9
in female Mortality stroke
Cardiovascular
accidents Renal failure

Material and Methodology

  • Design of study Post interventional study
  • Subjects All the people
attending laughing club regularly in 2006 in the

  • following area
  • Naranpura
  • Parimal garden
  • Satellite
  • Kankaria
  • Total 372 people
  • Inclusion criteria All persons attending
    laughing club
  • Exclusion criteria None

Methodology
  • Take permission of respected Dean madam and HOD
    of PSM Department
  • Find out 4 laughing club in Ahmedabad
  • Take consent of administrators of all laughing
club and all people attending laughing club
  • and enroll them in our project
  • Study period Once a day in a week for
    consecutive 8 week
  • Take blood pressure before laughing (Pre-session)
and again after laughing giving rest
  • of 10 minutes (Post-session)
  • Criteria for measurement of BP
  • In a sitting position
  • On right arm
  • Only mercury
    sphygmomanometer
  • Manpower 12 volunteers (available)
  • Material Sphygmomanometers 12 (from
    all volunteer)

TIME LINE CHART
12
OBSERVATIONS DISCUSSION
13
AGEWISE DISTRIBUTION OF STUDY GROUP
Here, the more people are in the age group of 61
to 66 and as it goes to the extremes the
population size is decreasing.

14
SEX WISE DISTRUBUTION OF STUDY GROUP
  • Here, male members are more then female members.

15
ADDICTION WISE DISTRUBUTION OF STUDY GROUP
Most of the members are non-addicted.
16
HYPERTENSION WISE DISTRUBUTION OF STUDY GROUP
Here, 35.8 are hypertensive.
17
OCCUPTION WISE DISTRUBUTION OF STUDY GROUP
Out of 372 study group member most are retired
persons (46.2) and house wives (29)
18
DISTRUBUTION OF STUDY GROUP ACCORDING TO FAMILY
HISTORY
19
ASSOCIATION OF HT WITH FAMILY H/O
HERE, for Chi-square test Calculated
value40.93 and Tabulated
value( at 5 of significance)3.84.
Cal. Valuegt Tab. Value. So , Null hypothesis is
rejected. That means- HT and Family H/O are
significantly associated.
20
DISTRUBUTION OF STUDY GROUP ACCORDING TO NUMBER
OF DRUG INTAKE
Among Hypertensive- most are taking one drug.
21
TABLE- EFFECT OF LAUGHING ON SYSTOLIC BLOOD
PRESSURE
  • On observation, according to the results of Z
TEST, significant difference between pre and post
session systolic blood pressure is seen (for
consecutive 8 Sundays) at 95 confidence limit.

22
TABLE-EFFECT OF LAUGHING ON DIASTOLIC BLOOD
PRESSURE
  • On observation, according to the results of Z
TEST, significant difference between pre and post
session diastolic blood pressure is seen (for
consecutive 8 Sundays) at 95 confidence limit.

23
TABLE-LONG TERM EFFECT OF LAUGHING ON BLOOD
PRESSURE OF
DIFFERENT GENDERS
  • There is significant effect of laughing on
systolic and diastolic blood pressure on long
term (of 8 weeks) basis, in both male and female,
according to Z TEST at 95 confidence limit.

24
SUMMARY CONCLUSION
  • We have done study on the blood pressure
measurement on 372 person of 4 various laughing
club at Naranpura , Kankaria , Manekbagh ,
    Parimal garden .
  • We have collected data by pre session post
    session measurement of blood pressure
  • The duration of data which we have collected
    ranges from 29 march to 2 June 2006 .
  • From the whole study we conclude that out of
total 372 person 133 are hypertensive , among
these male are more hypertensive than female.
  • Retired and house wives attains more in number
    than others.
  • At the end of the study, we have concluded that
laughing causes significant decrease in systolic
and diastolic blood pressure on short term and
    long term basis.
