Implementing the System

  • Shanghai
  • Economic, trade, financial and transportation
    centre of china.
  • Population 16 millions
  • Area 6340km2
  • Highway 6000km in the suburb area
  • Expressway 240km
  • Daily traffic demand is about 33 millions (vehkm)

  • The problems in the highway network are
  • How to define the traffic situation in the
    network?
  • What should we do to improve the traffic
    situation? Build a new highway? Or revise the
    construction planning? Or take management
    measures?
  • How to build a traffic database for ITS which
    will be introduced in near future?

  • The development of the system began in July
    2002. Cooperating with Tongji University,
    Shanghai Civil Engineering Management Bureau
    deployed 102 data collecting stations, along with
    expressway data which are derived from toll
    stations. The collected data covers near 4000km
    highway in length, about 60 of whole network.
  • Meanwhile, the demand analysis and
    functionality of the software were worked out in
    2002.

The inputting and timing calculation of the data

    be inputted.
  • Most index data resulted from timing calculation
    of the traffic survey data. In addition, the data
    of the observation stations can be spatially
    extended to the whole highway network and timely
    extended to the expected time slice.

The query and statistics of data
  • As a result of the given query conditions, the
    expected result can be acquired after the needed
    data is statistically computed .
  • The query result can be automatically acquired
    when a section of a highway is clicked at the
    graph interface. A graph file can be displayed on
    the screen resulting from the given query
    conditions.

  • The content of analysis and evaluation is defined
    by those evaluation indexes which have been
    illuminated before.
  • Given especial query need, the individuality
    query conditions are effective. For example, the
    in-out highways can be selected to form a new
    individuality section of a highway which can be
    a query condition in the evaluation of the
    in-out highways.
  • The analysis and evaluation result can be
    automatically acquired through being displayed in
    the form of charts or tables on the screen.
