Down Syndrome is the most common and readily
identifiable chromosomal condition associated
with mental retardation. It is caused by a
chromosomal abnormality for some unexplained
reason, an accident in cell development in 47
instead of the usual 46 chromosomes. This changes
the orderly development of the body and brain. In
most cases the diagnosis of Down Syndrome is made
shortly after birth. The incidence is very high
and about 1 in every 800 to 1000 live births is
born with Down Syndrome

  • The most important aspect of having a child with
DOWN SYNDROME is acceptance by both parents and
society. In Mathru Mandir, we take pride in
stating that we have not only kept families
together, we have made parents happily accept
their child as they would any other child. This
has been our biggest success and we not only have
families in Chennai but from all over India and
    the Middle East
