    Spirit

4
Exhortation 1
  • Read, remember mercies, and ponder it in your
    hearts

5
Exhortation 2
  • Ask God with sincere heart, real intent, and
    faith in Christ

6
Exhortation 3
  • Deny not the power of God

7
You can change human nature. No man who has
felt in him the Spirit of Christ even for half a
minute can deny this truth. . . . Yes, Christ
changes men, and changed men can change the
world. (Ezra Taft Benson, Ensign, Nov. 1985,
6)
8
Exhortation 4
  • Deny not the gifts of God

9
Now the Lord has placed in His Church
certain gifts, and these gifts are intended to
help bear us up in such times as I speak of to
strengthen us in our weak places, in our defects
of character, to help us to conquer our
imperfections. If a man has a bad temper, he
should pray to God to give him power to subdue
that temper, and fill him with the spirit of
charity for charity suffereth long, is kind, and
not easily provoked. . .
10
This comes from God and He gives it to His
servants and people when they ask in the proper
way for it. We can conquer our tempers in this
way, by seeking to the Lord for this gift. . .
These gifts are placed in the Church for the
perfecting of the Saints. There is no one that
has a defect in his or her character but what
there is a gift in the Church, promised by the
Lord to correct that defect. . . There are no
gifts in the Church which God has promised us but
what He will give if we live for them.
(Collected Discourses, Vol.2, George Q. Cannon,
July 5th, 1891)
11
Exhortation 5
  • Remember that every good gift cometh of Christ

12
Exhortation 6
  • God operates by fixed laws

13
Exhortation 7
  • Do not rationalize your situation

14
No man ought to say, Oh, I cannot help
this it is my nature. He is not justified in
it, for the reason that God has promised to give
strength to correct these things, and to give
gifts the will eradicate them. (George Q.
Cannon, Millennial Star, 23 April 1894, p.
260-61)
15
Exhortation 8
  • . . .come unto Christ and be perfect

16
Gods gifts, unlike seasonal gifts, are eternal
and unperishable, constituting a continual
Christmas which is never over! These infinite
gifts are made possible by the infinite
atonement (Neal A. Maxwell, The Christmas Scene,
p. 4).
17
. . . be perfect in Christ
  • come unto Christ (v. 30)
  • lay hold upon every good gift (v. 30)
  • touch not the evil gift nor unclean thing (v.
    30)
  • arise from the dust (v. 31)
  • put on thy beautiful garments (v. 31)
  • strengthen stakes, enlarge borders, and remember
    the covenants (v. 31)

18
. . . be perfect in Christ
  • come unto Christ (v. 32)
  • deny yourself of all ungodliness (v. 32)
  • love God with all your might, mind, and
    strength (v. 32)
  • ye become holy, without spot through the blood
    of Christ (v. 33)

19
Men and women who turn their lives over to God
will discover that He can make a lot more out of
their lives than they can. He will deepen their
joys, expand their vision, quicken their minds,
strengthen their muscles, lift their spirits,
increase their opportunities, comfort their
souls, raise up friends, and pour out peace.
(The Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 361)
