  • Sent to a wet nurse in a family of stone cutters
  • Sucked in the craft of hammer and chisel with my

  • Actual tomb when finished contained a magnificent
    sculpture of Moses holding the Ten Commandments
  • Statue of the Bound Slave, Dying Slave and a
    Third Captive

    imprisoned within the stone

  • Michelangelo became interested in architecture
    following the Sistine Chapel
  • Laurentian Library- his first major architectural
    adventure
  • Designed the Campidoglio- preserved traditional
    Roman monumentality

  • 1529- Michelangelo put in charge of part of
    Florences armed forces
  • Brilliantly protected San Miniato by covering the
    church in mattresses
  • Fearing that Florentine forces would lose, he
    fled to Venice
  • Exiled as a traitor for this
  • When the Medici returned to Florence this exile
    was lifted.
