Title: Recent Advances in Homoeopathic Pharmacy

1
Recent Advances in
Homoeopathic Pharmacy
  • Dr. Pravas K Pal
  • BHMS, MD (Hom)
  • Professor Head
  • Dept. of Homoeopathic Pharmacy
  • FMHMC, Mangalore

2
Recent advances in Homoeopathic Pharmacy
attributed to -
  • Pharmaceutics
  • Pharmacognosy
  • Pharmaceutical Analysis
  • Experimental Pharmacology
  • Human Pathogenetic Trials
  • Fundamental Research
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

3
Advances in Pharmaceutics
  • Pharmaceutical dosage forms.
  • Use of Extra Neutral Alcohol.
  • Standardizing safe lower limit for triturations.

4
Essential Pharmacognosy
  • Microscopical examination of plant drugs.
  • -Various parts of herbal drugs
  • - Leaf constants
  • Preliminary Phyto - chemical screening.
  • - Successive solvent extraction
    (Quantitative).
  • - Qualitative chemical examination.
  • Quantitative microscopy Lycopodium spore
    method.

5
Advances in Pharmaceutical Analysis
  • Pharmaceutical analytical techniques are
    categorised as
  • Spectral methods
  • Visible UV spectroscopy
  • IR spectroscopy
  • NMR spectroscopy
  • Chromatographic methods
  • TLC, HPLC etc
  • Electro Chemical techniques
  • Potentiometry
  • Conductometry
  • Polarography

6
Application of Experimental Pharmacology in
Homoeopathy
  • The main aims of experimental pharmacology in
    Homoeopathy are
  • To study the mechanism of action of potentised
    Homoeopathic drugs in animal models.
  • To study the site of action of Homoeopathic
    drugs.
  • To study the toxicity of crude drugs.
  • To find out a therapeutic agent suitable for
    human use.

7
Advances in Human Pathogenetic Trials
  • Methodological flaws in Hahnemannian Drug
    provings minimization strategies in modern
    HPTs.

10
Fundamental Research
  • The General Iteration Theory of Homoeopathic
    Potentisation.
  • Theory of Ie crystals.
  • Theory of High Dilution.

11
The General Iteration Theory
  • Explaining the process of potentisation on the
    basis of Quantum physics.
  • Amplifying despite dilution is the key to
    understand this phenomenon.
  • Initial drug Fractals.
  • Fractals does not decrease by potentisation, but
grows in its complexity, as in homoeopathic
    potencies.

12
Theory of Ie crystals( Ice electrical field
crystals)
  • Contribution of Dr. Shui -Yin- Lo, a Research
    Scientist.
  • This theory suggests when a solution of a
particular chemical is diluted extremely, the
solvent molecules come in closest proximity to
    chemical molecule, harden into micro
    crystals.
  • These crystals have a unique shape for each
    different chemical.
  • Dr. Lo claims that these crystals are capable of
    interacting with immune system.

13
Theory of High Dilution
  • Developed by a Physician, Rolland Conte a group
    of scientists.
  • They observed, some changes in the Infra-red
spectrum of Homoeopathic high dilutions that
should have same Infra-red spectrum of water.
  • After the analysis of same with Nuclear Magnetic
Resonance data, they developed the Contonian
    frequency.
  • The Contonian frequency is unique to each remedy
    can be measurable .

14
Good Manufacturing PracticesGMP
  • GMP has significant importance in view of Post
    GATT scenario.
  • Means to assure the very quality of drugs.
  • GMP guidelines for Homoeopathic medicines are
specified in Schedule M-1, of Drugs Cosmetic
    rules 1945. ( also refer Rule 85-E(2))
  • It includes the requirements of premises, plant
    equipment for Homoeopathic medicines.
