The IU Voluntary Benefits Program Special
Enrollment PeriodSeptember 1 September
30Enrollment in certain programs with more
favorable conditions regarding proof of good
health.

Special Enrollment Period
  • Long-term Care Insurance for Employees does not
    require proof of good health.
  • Short-term Disability Insurance does not have a
    late enrollment penalty (late enrollees have a 60
    day waiting period for illness disability during
    the first 12 months of coverage)
  • Vision Wear is only available during an annual
    enrollment period each year. After September,
    the next opportunity for enrollment will be Fall
    2010 for a 1/1/2011 effective date.
  • Critical Illness Insurance does not require proof
    of good health for coverage of Employees (up to
    10,000)

What are Voluntary Benefits?
Optional benefit plans are 100 employee paid.
These plans typically have the advantage of
group rates not available to individuals on their
own and the convenience of premiums paid through
payroll deductions.

What do benefits cost?
  • Premiums are often based on individual factors,
    for example
  • short-term disability is based on actual base
    salary
  • long term care is based on age at enrollment,
    plus 5 daily benefit options, inflation and
    non-forfeiture options.
  • Pet insurance is based on type and age of pet and
    coverage options
  • Premium examples are given in the presentation
  • Individual quotes are available during plan
    enrollment.
  • Payroll deductions are monthly (2nd pay for
    biweekly)

Who is Marsh?
Marsh is the benefits administrator for the
IU Voluntary Benefits Program. Marsh provides
services such as enrollments, ongoing servicing,
billing, marketing, brokerage, customer
administration and claim servicing, and
communications. Therefore, Marsh serves as a hub
for all of your IU Voluntary Benefit needs.

Long-Term Care Insurance

    associated with a nursing home costs and home
    health care.
  • An individual could face these expenses at any
    point in life, due to an accident or illness.

    covered illness or disability
  • Available to Full-time staff only.
