Definition Heat stroke/Sun Stroke is a syndrome
due to overheating the body. It occurs when the
core or rectal temperature rises through
41c. C/F - Dramatic onset with no warning -
Diminished Perspiration - Rapid loss of
consciousness - Dry burning skin - Hyperpyrexia
may be complicated with acute circulatory
failure, hypokalemia, acute renal or hepatic
failure haemorrage.

Lack of wind
Alcoholism
Exogenous
Inappropriate clothing
Dehydration
Febrile illness

First Aid Measures
- Remove the casualty to a cool place and get
them to lie down. - Loosen any tight clothing
and remove any unnecessary garments. - Cool down
the casualty by sponging with cool water or by
covering in a wet sheet. - Fan the casualty to
assist cooling. - If conscious, place the
casualty in a comfortable position and replace
lost fluid by giving them plenty of water. - if
unconscious, Monitor breathing, pulse and level
of consciousness. - Call for medical aid or
transport to a medical facility - DO NOT give
anything to drink.

General Management
Aim To reduce the body temperature and maintain
proper cardiopulmonary activity. In addition to
above measures, maintain the airway. Correction
of potassium deficiency. Blood transfusion if
severe haemorrage. Acute circulatory
failure(ACF), Acute renal failure(ARF), Hepatic
failure(HF) or Disseminated intravascular
coagulation(DIC) may require treatment.

Prevention
Acclimatisation. Suitable clothing. Avoidance
of risk factors. Adequate water and salt
intake. Do not overwork in very hot, humid
weather. Keep cool.

Homoeopathic Management
Glonoine ? Heat in the head, throbbing
headache/ sun headaches increases and decreases
with the sun. ? Ill effects of sun heat.
? Mental confusion with dizziness.

Nat.carb.
Prominent symptoms are worse from sun, heat,
gas light. Great debility caused by summer
heat. Headache from sun or working under gas
light. Every spell of warm weather causes
headache. Bad effects of sun-stroke

Gelsemium
  • General depression from heat of sun (sunstroke)
  • Dizziness, drowsiness and dullness.
  • Slow pulse with muscular weakness.

Veratrum viride
Effects of sunstroke. Hot head, bloodshot eyes,
livid face, intense congestion. Rapid pulse, low
tension or slow, soft, weak, irregular
pulse. Beating of pulses throughout the
body. Hot sweat.

Ant. Crud.
  • Worse by heat is a characteristic, cant bear
    heat of sun.
  • Dry skin.

Belladonna
Violence of attack and suddenness of
onset. Hot, red skin, flushed face, dilated
pupil, throbbing carotids, excited mental state,
hyperesthesia of all the senses. Exceedingly
dry mouth with thirstlessness.

Opium
Hot perspiration over whole body except lower
limbs. Reappearance and aggravation of all
symptoms being over heated.
