4
What is NROSH?
  • A single consistent national social housing
    database
  • Property level data rather than summary data
  • Once set up it will extract automatically
rather than requiring a manual summary
  • RSR HSSA migration to NROSH

8
Enhanced analysis
  • Data can be analysed at any geographical level
  • Postcode
  • Ward
  • Neighbourhood

  • Region or sub-region
  • It can be combined with other datasets to present
    a more complete picture

  • 6. NROSH data and analysis

11
Modernising data collection
  • The data stored in your HMS can be used to fill
NROSH data fields at the touch of a button,
replacing the need for a lot of data re-entry.
  • NROSH is based on sound methodology for
collecting and analysing data at a unit level.
  • NROSH data can be used for many different
purposes such as filling the property-related
    fields for the
  • RSR
  • HSSA
  • BPSA-AM
  • CORE (future)
  • This reduces the amount of time and effort
    required for statutory returns.

12
Saving you time and effort
The amount of time and effort saved differs
depending onthe nature of your organisation.
  • Consider
  • RSLs - How much time does your organisation
currently spend on submitting the RSR or
    providing information to LAs?
  • LAs - How long does it take you to identify all
the RSLs operating in the area and collect HSSA
    data from them?
  • This will give an estimate of the amount of time
that NROSH could save you in the medium to longer
    term.

  • 4. Which data are we collecting?
  • 5. How does NROSH data collection work?
  • 6. NROSH data and analysis

14
Which data are we collecting?
  • NROSH data requirements have been devised to
    align with existing data collections.
  • We are currently asking for around 40 data items
that are already collected and returned.
  • Data requirements vary slightly for LAs/ALMOs and
    RSLs.

43
Toolkits
  • What is a toolkit?
  • A software component that attaches to, or is
included with housing management systems (HMS)
that creates a NROSH data file
  • History
  • CLG contracted toolkits signed off in 2005
    following user acceptance testing
  • Software suppliers contacted in 2007 to assess
progress on updating to NROSH R4

44
Commissioned Toolkits
45
Other toolkits
46
Toolkit costs
  • Commissioned toolkits free
  • Anite, Academy, IBS, MIS SASSHA can charge
  • Set up costs installation getting it working
  • Mapping

47
Choosing a toolkit
  • All data suppliers have toolkit options
  • Identify your options
  • research them, and
  • decide on an appropriate toolkit
  • Longer term toolkits will be absorbed into the
    HMS (some are already)
  • Check the CLG website for toolkit information
  • HMS / toolkit supplier contact details
  • compatibility with HMS
  • NROSH data standards release currently in
    operation
  • when NROSH data standards R4 is likely to be
    available
  • help available from software suppliers
  • user group details

  • If you have a HMS/toolkit please use it!
  • If not
  • we have developed a spreadsheet which is being
piloted now and will be released shortly

Getting Started Guide
  • General information on NROSH benefits
  • Responsibility for submitting data
  • NROSH Targets
  • Mandatory priority data items
  • NROSH to RSR Facility
  • NROSH to HSSA/BPSA-AM Facility
  • How should I get started
  • get a toolkit (including what is a toolkit)
  • configuration mapping
  • data collection and cleansing
  • submitting your data
  • Key documents, further information and help

53
Helpful hints for getting started
  • Identify who will supply data if there is more
than one option (eg manager different to owner or
    group structures)
  • Skills both IT housing management knowledge
    is helpful
  • Resources initially high, then reducing
    considerably
  • Toolkits help is available from software
    suppliers
  • If possible use a small amount of data (eg an
    estate) to validate
  • Map the data you already have, then prioritise

NROSH data exportsRSR/HSSA/BPSA-AM
  • What is it?
  • An interface allowing submission of NROSH data
to automatically populate sections of existing
    statistics collection forms
  • Benefits?
  • Automatic population of the time consuming
elements of these forms will significantly
    reduce overall effort!
  • Checking times should be reduced
  • When is it available?
  • The system is currently being updated to
    reflect the RSR 2009 forms
  • Release scheduled for beginning of October
