Crossing the Red Sea the story
  • Then Moses held out his hand over the sea, and
the Lord drove the sea away with a strong east
wind all night long, and turned the seabed into
dry land. The waters were divided asunder, and
the Israelites went through the sea on the dry
ground, while the waters formed a wall to right
and left of them. Exodus 1421-22

3
Crossing the Red Seathe story
  • Then the Lord said to Moses, Hold your hand out
over the sea, so that the water may flow back on
the Egyptians, their chariots and horsemen.
Moses held his hand out over the sea, and at
daybreak the water returned to its usual place
and the Egyptians fled before its advance, but
the Lord swept them into the sea. Exodus
    1426-27

Crossing the Red Seasignificance
  • So that I may win glory for myself at the
expense of Pharaoh and all his army and the
Egyptians will know that I am the Lord.
    Exodus

    Egyptian armies
  • The people were in awe of the Lord and put
their faith in him and in Moses his servant.
    Exodus 1431

Crossing the Red Seapossible scientific
explanation
  • Red Sea is a mis-translation of a much
    shallower Reed Sea
  • Volcanic eruption on Greek island Santorini
triggers giant tidal wave, 600' high, 400 mph,
which upon reaching Egypt would have grown to 100
    miles long
  • Capable of momentarily clearing seabed allowing
the Israelites to pass, then refilling as the
    tidal wave continues its journey

6
Crossing the Red Seatraditional site
  • North of Gulf of Suez
  • Would have crossed while tide was out
  • Contradictions from biblical account
  • Israelites still in land of Egypt upon crossing
  • Incapable of drowning entire Egyptian army
  • Not near Mt. Sinai in Midian

7
Crossing the Red SeaRon Wyatts Site
  • Gulf of Aqapa, Nuweiba Beach
  • Large enough for encampment of 2 million plus
    herds

then slope up to Saudi beach, Elat Deep and
Aragonese Deep on either side sandbars create
    path connecting shores

8
Crossing the Red SeaRon Wyatts Site
  • Treacherous Wadi Watir (winding canyon area)
    creates only entrance to site
  • Pharaoh will then think that the Israelites are
finding themselves in difficult country, and are
    hemmed in by the wilderness.
    Exodus 143
