Kitaw Ejigu (February 25, 1948 - January 13,
2006) was an Ethiopian scientist, who worked for
NASA as Chief of Spacecraft and Satellite Systems
engineer. He was also a political leader and a
devouted Christian and family man.

Dr. Tilahun Yilma, a veterinary virologist who
genetically engineered a vaccine for a deadly
cattle disease and is now working to develop an
AIDS vaccine, has been named the 2002 Faculty
Research Lecturer by his colleagues at the
University of California, Davis. The 60th annual
presentation of this honor, which recognizes
exceptional research contributions of a campus
faculty member, was made today during the annual
spring meeting of the UC Davis Academic Senate.
This is the highest honor UC Davis faculty
members can bestow upon their peers.
Traditionally, the recipient presents a
springtime campus lecture related to his or her

Dr Aklilu Lemma, a scientist, scholar, professor
and leader an enthusiastic, inspiring, strong,
exemplary Ethiopian, just a few of the
descriptions given to this wonderful man. Sadly,
we honor Dr. Aklilu posthumously. One of his
major accomplishments was the study on the
properties of the Ethiopian soapberry plant. He
belonged to many major international memberships
and was given a considerable amount of awards. He
initiated and implemented assistance programs
designed to help African countries. Professor
Aklilu is survived by his wife Woizero Betseiti
and his three Children, Tewdros, Mesfin and

Mr. Haile Gerima - A tenured professor of film at
Howard University in Washington, D.C. A
recipient of Rockefeller and Guggenheim Fellow.
He was selected in 1994 as one of the seven
filmakers to direct documentary for the BBC Fine
Art Series. Mr. Gerima directed and produced
several feature films and won several awards for
his achievements. Perhaps, he is well known for
his film "Sankofa" which captured the heart of
many Africans and African Americans. No picture
