THE BATTLE OF DUBLIN
The Battle lasted from 28 June to 5 July 1922. It
marked the beginning of the Irish Civil War,
which ended in 1923.

MICHAEL COLLINS(1890-1922)
Considered by many Irish politicians one of the
founder of the Irish State, he was an
revolutionary leader, who died during the Civil
War.

THE BIRTH OF EIRE
The Irish Free State is renamed EIRE (the Gaelic
name of Ireland). The Constitution of Ireland
came into force. Ireland was not a Republic yet.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
1948 Republic of Ireland Act. 1949 Ireland
became officially a Republic. 1955 Ireland
joined the United Nations.

FROM THE REPUBLIC IRELAND UNTIL TODAY
  • The Troubles with the Ulster were not solved.
  • The birth of UVF (Ulster Volunteer Force).
  • The UVF organized many attacks.
  • The Battle of the Bogside (12-14 August 1969).
  • Sunningdale Agreement in 1972.
  • Refuse of Sunningdale Agreement and successive
    huge strikes.
  • Ceasefires in 1994 between Loyalist and
    Republican paramilitaries.

FROM THE REPUBLIC IRELAND UNTIL TODAY
IRA continued to commit attacks. Good Friday
Agreement in 1997 momentarily stopped the
attacks. Nevertheless IRA keeped on dropping
bombs. Today IRA lost its control over the
nationalists and it is now just a small group of
violents.
