Title: NCO Responsibilities

1
NCO Responsibilities
  • Presented By
  • C/Capt Gould

2
Introduction/Overview
  • A leader and a Follower
  • Responsible for knowing proper information
  • Exceeding the standard and leading by example.
  • Properly correcting a problem.
  • Questions.

3
A leader and a follower
  • As an NCO, you are both a leader as well as a
    follower.
  • You will be drilling the flight (not the flight
    commander.)
  • At times, you will have to listen to the Flt CC,
thus it is required that you are prepared and
    flexible.
  • Be sure to have an open ear for your cadets.

4
Responsible for knowing the proper information
  • In order to properly teach your cadets, you must
    know the correct information.
  • To effectively drill your cadets you must know
    ______.
  • AFR 50-14
  • Make sure that you are doing things by the
regulations, so as to avoid creating myths and
    legends.
  • All in all, things will run more smoothly.

5
Exceeding the standard and leading by example
  • Wear your uniform with pride and look your best
    at all times.
  • If you ask your subordinates to carry out an
order, make sure that you can do it as well.
  • Set high standards for yourself and others, which
will make good progress within your squadron.
  • When asked to carry out an order, make sure that
you not only complete it but also take it one
    step further.

6
Properly correcting a problem.
  • Every leader has their own unique style of
    approaching things.
  • Before you get aggravated with a cadet, ask
yourself questions like How much experience does
this Cadet have?, Did I teach this Cadet the
proper information to complete this task?, Did
this come from another squadron where they did
    things differently?
  • Never assume a cadet can fix things. Instead, you
can always ask them if they know the correct way
    to fix a problem.
  • Praise in public/reprimand in private.
  • Be patient with cadets during drill, after all
    people learn at different speeds.
  • What is the primary purpose of drill? Secondary?

7
(Continued)
  • Always use positive peer pressure. Negitive peer
pressure will most likely loose cadets.
  • Overall, as an NCO, you serve as a liaison
officer between your superiors and your
subordinates. After all, an NCO is looked to for
both knowledge as well as expertise. It is your
choice whether or not you can offer this to your
    CAP squadron.
